Job description

Overview

This position offers a $7,500 sign‑on bonus. Akumin and Brigham & Women's Radiation Oncology are partnering to bring on a Radiation Therapist to join our team. The Radiation Therapist will serve patients with high quality care.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan.
  • Ensures safety in patient care through consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration.
  • Identifies correct patient, escorts to treatment room, assists onto treatment table, positions patient for treatment, delivers radiation from control room, and assists patient in exiting treatment room.
  • Provides and ensures an environment of caring, concern and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and co‑workers consistently.
  • Assures the quality of treatment delivery through complete and accurate documentation of treatment records.
  • Recognizes deviation from prescribed treatment delivery and reports all deviations to the Chief Therapist and/or Physicist.
  • Uses effective communication techniques to provide explanations for treatment‑related procedures and refers medical questions to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds effectively to patient concerns and observes patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments, communicating findings to staff.
  • Reinforces patient education/side‑effect management information and indicates non‑compliance to medical/nursing staff.
  • Independently performs patient simulations at physician’s request, collects and documents data, accurately inputs treatment‑related data into the EMR, and makes patient‑centric recommendations.
  • Assists in all treatment‑related procedures, including transporting patients, reviewing charts, and ordering supplies.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize standard imaging/ARGT and make necessary adjustments to ensure high quality treatment.
  • Performs and documents daily and weekly QA checklist, notifies team members and documents findings outside normal range of operations.
  • Participates in programs to measure and improve quality of care within the Department.
  • Uses critical thinking to troubleshoot and often fix common quality issues.
  • Carries out patient treatment charges capture and verification.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree.
  • ARRT (T).
  • CPR Certification.
  • One to four years of experience as a Radiation Therapist.
  • COVID-19 may be a condition of employment.
  • Complete a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Physical Requirements

The employee may be exposed to radioactive isotopes, ionizing radiation, and a strong magnetic field. May be exposed to radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. Must have full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity such as walking in and out of the treatment room, lifting potentially heavy cerrobend blocks and electron cones, and transferring and moving patients. More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk. Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs. See, speak and hear to be able to communicate with patients. Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel or crawl; climb and balance; carry and lift non‑ambulatory patients for transfer or exam.
