Job summary

Aalo Atomics is seeking a Shielding Engineer to characterize radiation sources and develop shielding designs for advanced reactor systems. You will apply state-of-the-art analysis methods and computational tools to evaluate source terms and meet safety, regulatory, and customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
• 2+ years of radiation shielding analysis or radiation transport experience.
• Proficiency with MCNP, ADVANTG, SCALE/KENO, OpenMC, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and shielding design principles.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiation shielding design and analysis for reactor, fuel handling, and site systems.
• Develop and execute trade studies evaluating shielding materials, geometries, deployment strategies.
• Develop neutronics simulations to characterize neutron and photon source terms during operation, maintenance, and accident conditions.
• Optimize shielding designs to balance protection, manufacturability, cost, and deployment requirements.
• Develop technical reports and safety basis documentation supporting design, licensing, and operational activities.
• Ensure analysis methods, software tools, and outputs comply with the Aalo quality assurance program.
