Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Radiation Health Physicist 1 to protect communities by inspecting radiation sources, reviewing safety procedures, and communicating findings. Qualifications

  • Five years of technical experience protecting people and environment from radiation hazards or
  • Bachelor’s degree in health physics, radiation physics, radiation biology, nuclear physics, or applied health physics with relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with health physics or radiological sciences credits (20 credits) or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of registered and licensed radiation sources to assess compliance with regulations.
  • Make field measurements and collect readings using radiation detection instruments.
  • Prepare written inspection reports and summaries according to procedures.
  • Identify non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions to facility representatives.
  • Respond to supervised inquiries and explain radiation safety practices to the public.
  • Assist with supervised investigations of radiation incidents and determine follow-up actions.
