Job summary

Sentara Health is seeking a Radiation Physicist for our Norfolk, VA facility. The role involves providing quality therapeutic medical physics support within a collaborative team of radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, and therapists.

You will assist with treatment planning, delivery processes, and the adoption of new technologies. Candidates should have a Master’s Degree, ABR eligibility, and BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree required.
  • ABR Eligible REQUIRED; CAMPEP-accredited certificate may be required if PhD is in another field.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality therapeutic medical physics support within a collaborative team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists.
  • Assist with treatment planning and delivery processes and support implementation of new technologies.
  • Contribute to departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiatives; perform QA/QC tasks and routine measurements.
  • Maintain regulatory tasks and accurate records per Virginia/North Carolina licenses and ABR standards.

Overview:

Sentara Health is now hiring Radiation Physicists in Norfolk, VA!

Overview

Provides quality therapeutic medical physics support within a collaborative team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists. Works within established protocols to ensure the safe and effective use of radiation in treatment.Assistswith treatment planning and delivery processes, supports the implementation ofnew technologies, and contributes to departmental policies, procedures, and quality initiatives. Participates in the systemwide medical physics QA/QC program by performing routine measurements, equipment checks, data collection, and documentation in alignment with AAPM/ASTRO/ACR/ACRO standards while building competency.

Performs all Virginia Department of Health and North Carolina Radioactive Materials licenses regulatory tasks at their required frequency andmaintainsaccuraterecords of equipment tests results, daily, weekly, monthly,semiannuallyand annual surveys, radiopharmaceutical ordering, receiving,administrationand waste disposal.

Maintains strict adherence to radiation safety policies anddemonstratesongoing professional development toward ABR certification.

Other Requirements:

Candidates with a doctoral degree (PhD) in a field other than Medical Physics must also have completed a CAMPEP (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs) accredited Medical Physics certificate program to qualify.
