Inova Alexandria Hospital Radiation Therapy is seeking a dedicated Radiation Oncology Technician Assistant to join the team on a PRN day-shift schedule, Monday–Friday in Alexandria, VA. The role supports therapists and physicians during treatments and helps prepare patient records and immobilization devices.

Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, prior patient care experience, and BLS certification. Preferred candidates have oncology exposure to support care delivery.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED.
• Experience: Previous patient care experience (e.g. Patient Transport or Nursing Aide).
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start.

Responsibilities

• Assist therapists and physicians in preparing immobilization devices.
• Position patients on the simulator and/or CT machine for treatment delivery.
• Process/develop X-ray and CT films for planning; handle portal verification films as needed.
• Fabricate Cerrobend blocks from X-ray films for treatment planning and record-keeping.
• Prepare new patient therapy records and pull pertinent records for weekly chart rounds.
• Maintain logs of films and records; retrieve lab results and chart notes as required.
• Assist nurses and physicians with patient examinations and care.

Inova Alexandria Hospital Radiation Therapy is looking for a dedicated Radiation Oncology Technician Assistant to join the Team. This role will be PRN day-shift working Monday – Friday located in Alexandria, VA.

The Radiation Oncology Technician Assistant assists in the planning procedures for initial patient set-up. Facilitates the preparation of medical records and chart rounds while providing assistance to the nursing staff in clinics and provides assistance to Radiation Therapists and physicians during patient treatments.

Radiation Oncology Technician Assistant Responsibilities:

Assists therapist and physicians in the preparation of immobilization devices.

Assists with patient positioning activities on the simulator and/or Computed Tomography (CT) machine; Assists in moving/positioning patients in preparation of delivery of radiation therapy.

Processes/develops X-ray and/or CT films for treatment planning; Process/develops portal verification films as required.

Fabricates Cerrobend blocks from X-ray films for radiation treatments, medical records and chart rounding preparations.

Prepares new patient therapy records; Pulls pertinent patient records, reports and films for review at weekly chart rounds.

Logs and maintains films and records ordered from outside offices.

Retrieves and charts clinical laboratory results.

Obtains vital signs and records results.

Assists nurses and physicians with patient examinations.

Maintains inventory of equipment and is responsible for transporting equipment to and from operating rooms and sterile processing.

Observes patients for unusual reactions, behaviors and/or events and reports occurrences to Radiation Therapists or physicians.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High School or GED

• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience working with oncology patients preferred.
