Job summary

HARR Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz, OH, seeks a diagnostic CT Technologist to operate CT equipment, prepare exam rooms, and ensure image quality and patient safety.

The role requires ARRT/NMTCB certification, state licensure as applicable, BLS within 30 days, and one year CT experience. Applicants must follow radiation safety and PACS workflow; the job may involve IV contrast administration and neonatal to geriatric care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares room, equipment, materials, as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique.
  • Performs examinations per Physician’s orders and explains procedures to the patients.
  • Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes.
  • Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
  • Documents variances repeats and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
  • Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
  • Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
  • Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs.
  • Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  • Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
  • Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
  • Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.

Job description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Performs diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  1. Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  2. Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  3. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians

OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology

PA: No state license is required

WV : Radiological Technologist OR Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.

  1. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
  2. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

  1. One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepares room, equipment, materials, as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique. Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
  2. Performs examinations per Physician’s orders and explains procedures to the patients. Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
  3. Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes. Transports and assists patients as needed.
  4. Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
  5. Documents variances repeats and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
  6. Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
  7. Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
  8. Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs. Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/ healthcare errors and abuse.
  9. Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
    10.If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician. Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
  10. Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  11. May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
  12. Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
  13. Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.
  14. Performs all related duties as assigned by department manager or other duties assigned by lead technologist.
For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements
  1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
