Job summary

LifeGift is seeking a Donation Recovery Specialist to support organ donation processes, including in-hospital recovery and organ allocation. The role involves perfusion, preservation, and coordination with transplant centers across Texas.

The candidate should have CST or CFA certification or equivalent allied health training, and hold Texas and national licensure where applicable, with four years of acute care or organ procurement experience preferred. Hospital badge access is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology is required.
• Experience working in an acute care hospital, pre-hospital setting, or organ procurement setting is preferred.
• CST and/or CFA certifications or equivalent allied health training are required for this role.
• Active Texas and National licensure/certification as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate organ recovery in the operating room, including perfusion, preservation, and packaging of organs/tissues.
• Assist in anatomical dissection and placement of kidneys on preservation pumps, monitoring perfusion.
• Deliver kidneys to the receiving transplant center with proper donor information verification.
• Receive and screen donor offers and communicate information to local transplant centers.
• Maintain procurement equipment and supplies to ensure efficient operations.

LifeGift is currently looking for a Donation Recovery Specialist to provide assistance and support throughout the organ donation process. The DRS will be primarily responsible for the operating room recovery, preservation, and packaging, and they assist in the allocation of organs and kidney pump perfusion as needed.

Do you possess the attributes to be a successful Donation Recovery Specialist and perform the following essential functions?

• Provide assistance during local donor identification, stabilization and management of organ/tissue donors.
• Provide safe and timely transfer of blood, tissue typing materials, organs, and tissues to the appropriate facility.
• Coordinates the organ recovery process in the operating room. Providing perfusion, preservation, packaging, and distribution of recovered organs/tissues for transplantation and/or research.
• Assist with the anatomical dissection and placement of kidneys on a preservation pump and is responsible for monitoring kidney function during perfusion.
• Responsible for delivery of kidneys on the preservation pump to the receiving transplant center ensuring proper verification of donor information and allocation.
• Receive and screen referred organ offers from distant organ procurement agencies and provide accurate communication of information to local transplant centers. Coordinates and participates with recovery teams in the distant acquisition of organs/tissues.
• Responsible for the maintenance of procurement equipment, recovery supplies, and procurement supply room to ensure optional efficiency.

Do you have the education and experience to be a Donation Recovery Specialist?

• Completion of a Certified Scrub Technologist (CST) Certified First Assist (CFA), or other allied health training program, or equivalent experience.
• Must have and maintain their Texas and National licensure and/or certification if applicable.
• Four years of experience in an acute care hospital, pre-hospital emergency care setting, or organ procurement organization preferred.
• Must have knowledge of human anatomy & medical terminology.
