Job summary

The Sherwin-Williams Company is seeking a Laboratory Technician to weigh, measure and process powder coating samples and to operate lab equipment for testing in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. You'll follow ASTM/ISO methods, maintain detailed lab records, and write concise reports on procedures and results.

The role covers TGIC, HAA, urethanes, and related chemistries, with teamwork across manufacturing and engineering as priorities.

Qualifications

• 6+ months of lab experience in industry.

Job description

• -Accurately weigh, measure and process powder coating samples for testing while meeting agreed on timelines
• -Operate laboratory specific manufacturing and testing equipment related with powder coatings production
• -Follow specific Industry testing procedures such as ASTM and ISO methodologies
• -Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of lab work, formulations, and testing
• -Function with sustained supervision and write simple reports, outlining procedures used and the results obtained.
• -Work on coatings technologies including powder polyester TGIC and HAA, Urethanes, Hybrid polyester epoxies, pure epoxies, and related chemistries
• -Contribute as a team member on larger, more complex programs.
• -Comply with all safety and security regulations and maintain a clean work area.
• -Collaborate with cross-functional partners including manufacturing and Commercial Engineering

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• At least 6 months of lab experience in industry.
• Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
• Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
• Math knowledge

• Ability to manage multiple priorities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's degree in a chemistry or manufacturing related subject

• Experience with statistical analysis or data evaluation preferred
• Hands-on laboratory skills to execute experimental designs
• Formulation experience in coatings or related field
• Experience within a lab or manufacturing environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.

Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to climb and descend stairs.

Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.

Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.

May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.

May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.

May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.

May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.

Work surfaces may include concrete.

Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.

Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.

Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 5%

This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.
