Job summary

Canyonside Labs is seeking an R&D Technician to support research and development from concept to production handoff. This role prepares and evaluates product samples, operates and maintains lab equipment, and compiles data to inform formulation decisions, launches, and continuous improvement of existing products.

The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and ensuring GMP guidelines are followed

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a 2-year degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a closely related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory, R&D, or similar industry setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry terminology and scientific techniques used in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience in a regulated environment (nutraceutical, food, pharmaceutical, or similar) preferred, including cGMP environment controls.
  • Understanding of SOPs, FDA regulations, and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and projects, and work within deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Formulation and Testing: Assist in the preparing and evaluating product samples.
  • Test materials for conformance to specification.
  • Follow standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
  • Perform research, data gathering, charting, analysis, and recording to support formulation work.
  • Lab Operations and Equipment: Maintain, operate, and calibrate laboratory equipment with accurate recordkeeping.
  • Use lab equipment to test materials and create lab batches of products.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Adhere to health and safety, laboratory, and GMP guidelines.
  • Assist in the creation of batch production records with operating instructions.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready documentation; GDP at all times.
  • Support CI initiatives to improve R&D and Sales productivity, formulation and pricing turnaround times, and cost.
  • Identify and help eliminate waste, bottlenecks, and recurring quality or productivity issues in formulations.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Cross-train with the Quality team to assist the quality department when needed.
  • Communicate and resolve formulation risks with R&D and Operations.
  • Work closely with Production and Quality to support efficient, compliant product launches.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Technical Director.

Description

The R&D Technician supports Canyonside Labs' Research and Development function, working closely with the Technical Director and cross-functional teams to formulate, test, and refine nutraceutical products from concept through production handoff. This role prepares and evaluates product samples, operates and maintains lab equipment, and compiles data that supports formulation decisions, product launches, and continuous improvement of existing products. Beyond the bench, the R&D Technician helps translate successful formulations into batch production records and supports Quality and Production teams as new products move into manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment, and effective working across a wide range of personalities and teams.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a 2-year degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a closely related field preferred
