Job summary

The Marvin Group, a leading defense contractor based in Southern California, seeks an experienced R&D Manufacturing & Procurement Engineer to bridge R&D design, procurement, and suppliers. You will drive producibility, supplier selection, and non-turnkey parts management within a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates have 15+ years in Mil-DoD/aerospace procurement or a 5+ year mix with a relevant B.S.

Degree. Proficiency with SAP/ERP and strong written and verbal English skills are required.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in Procurement or Sourcing of Mil-DoD, Aerospace or Commercial Aviation components or assemblies.
  • Alternatively, a B.S. in Mechanical/Aeronautical/Manufacturing Eng with 5+ years in Manufacturing or Sourcing in Mil-DoD, Aerospace, or Commercial Aviation.
  • Experience with traditional metallic manufacturing processes (turning, milling, forging, extruding, plating, welding, NDT) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD and ASME Y14.5 drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct producibility evaluations and supplier selection.
  • Manage R&D procurement, supplier liaison, and source inspection tasks.
  • Support R&D receiving and non-turnkey parts management.
  • Coordinate ERP-driven procurement activities across Design Engineering and Programs.

Based in Southern California near the Los Angeles International Airport, The Marvin Group consists of Marvin Engineering (MEC), Marvin Test Solutions (MTS) and Marvin Land Systems (MLS). Marvin Engineering designs and produces military Alternate Mission Equipment. Marvin Test Solutions designs and manufactures armament Test Equipment. Marvin Land Systems specializes in the design and build of power and thermal management systems. SCOPE

This position requires a strong background in Procurement of mechanical components and assemblies. The ideal candidate will be experienced with selecting suppliers based on engineering requirements, suppliers’ capabilities and suppliers’ capacity. Functioning as R&D Engineering’s Supplier Liaison, the ideal candidate must be able to effectively communicate with suppliers on a technical and procurement level. The ideal candidate will have experience with navigating and being integral to the Procurement process though an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The candidate should have practical experience in Manufacturing and Quality Assurance for machined components and sub-assemblies, preferably for use in military or commercial aviation.

The R&D Manufacturing & Procurement Engineer (MPE) role is an interdisciplinary position which facilitates easy and accurate flow of information between R&D Design Engineering, Technical Program Managers, Procurement and Suppliers. This requires the candidate to work across a range of organizational and technical skills boundaries. The R&D MPE must be flexible and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment as a member of a team. The R&D MPE should also be a self-starter to excel as individual contributor, requiring minimal oversight.

The priorities of the R&D MPE will evolve as the different programs within R&D Engineering advance through the Product Development Lifecycle. The roles of the R&D MPE will include, but not limited to: producibility evaluation, selecting suppliers, R&D procurement, supplier liaison, R&D source inspection and R&D receiving and managing of non-turnkey parts.

Skills / Requirements
  • Minimum experience needed: 15 years of experience in Procurement or Sourcing of Mil-DoD, Aerospace or Commercial Aviation mechanical components or assemblies.
  • OR
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Manufacturing Engineering and minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing and/or Sourcing of Mil-DoD, Aerospace or Commercial Aviation mechanical components or assemblies.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with the workflow of traditional metallic manufacturing processes such as turning, milling, forging, extruding, plating, grinding, welding, non-destructive testing, etc.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for aerospace materials for aerospace requirements is highly desirable. Knowledge should include manufacturing techniques, their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Prior assembly line or shop experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience in Quality Assurance processes and disciplines, including inspection, identification, and disposition of nonconforming materials is a plus.
  • Must be skilled in using Enterprise Resource Planning software. SAP is preferred.
  • Must be able to perform basic measurements and simple inspection processes using standard measuring equipment.
  • Being able to review CAD models to assist designers and vendors is a plus.
  • Must have experience with MIL-STD documents and interpretating ASME Y14.5 drawings.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
