Job summary

ABB, a global leader in electric motors, seeks a senior engineer to drive prototype development from concept to completion and bridge design with production feasibility. You will apply advanced motor design principles to create electrical designs that meet ABB specifications and industry standards in an onsite role within ABB’s NEMA Motors Division.

You will collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges, lead prototyping timelines, and serve as a technical resource

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field with 8+ years in electric motors.
• Experience with FEA, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SAP (preferred).
• Authorized to work in the United States.

• Prototyping Leadership – Define and execute prototype development strategies, including equipment and tooling requirements.

Your role and responsibilities:

Play a key role in technology and product development initiatives that shape the next generation of electric motor products. Drive specialized prototype development projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality and timeline targets are met. Leverage deep knowledge of manufacturing processes to bridge design intent with production feasibility, identifying opportunities to improve cost, efficiency, and scalability.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Design & Technical Excellence – Apply advanced motor design principles to create electrical designs for industrial motors that meet ABB specifications and industry standards. Demonstrate continuous learning and mastery of ABB engineering tools and problem-solving methodologies.
• Prototyping Leadership – Define and execute prototype development strategies, including equipment and tooling requirements. Plan prototyping timelines and accelerate technology readiness.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner effectively with other R&D and cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges, authorize material substitutions, and drive application-focused solutions.
• Technical Leadership – Serve as a key technical resource, solving design and application challenges, supporting cross-functional problem-solving, and actively contributing to design teams.

Qualifications for the role:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience with electric motors.
• Preferred Experience – Advanced design methods (FEA), AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SAP.
• Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
