Job summary

bioMérieux is seeking a Research Technician Co-Op to support molecular biology and microbiology tasks under supervision of a Research Scientist. You will gain hands-on experience in designing and executing experiments to contribute to diagnostic assay development.

The role involves PCR setup, media prep, aseptic handling of cultures, meticulous notebook records, and adherence to safety and quality procedures in a fast-paced lab environment in Pennsylvania.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Active pursuit of bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Preferred: experience with PCR and gel electrophoresis.
  • Preferred: aseptic work with bacteria/yeast.

Job description

Position Summary

The Research Technician Co-Op will work under the supervision of a Research Scientist to perform molecular biology and microbiology tasks in a time-efficient manner. The individual will have the opportunity to design and independently execute experiments and contribute to the development of novel diagnostic assays.


Primary Duties


  1. General laboratory tasks, including PCR master mix production, ordering, media preparation, autoclaving materials, and processing glassware.

  2. Bring equipment facilities issues to the attention of the manager for resolution

  3. Comply with safety requirements, cGMP, SOP and manufacturing documentation

  4. Keep a detailed laboratory notebook documenting experimental goals, results, and conclusions.

  5. Clean production equipment or work areas

  6. Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

  7. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Education, Training and Experience



  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Must be actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related discipline



  • No previous experience required


Preferred Education, Training and Experience



  • Experience performing routine molecular biology techniques, including PCR and gel electrophoresis



  • Experience working with bacteria and/or yeast using aseptic techniques

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements


  • Ability to remain in stationary position, either sitting or standing, for prolonged periods.



  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like.



  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day.



  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.



  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.


This position requires sitting and standing and is based in a laboratory setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.


Approximate Hours Per Week: 40


The wage for this role based in Pennsylvania is $18.00/hour. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
