Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an R&D Project Manager to lead the Nuclear Fuels and Materials experiments portfolio. You will oversee design, irradiation, shipment, and post-irradiation examination, coordinating across quality, regulatory, and engineering teams to meet milestones and deliverables.

You will interface with national and international partners to advance nuclear initiatives, manage budgets, and prepare plans and data packages in accordance with INL standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program with relevant experience.
• Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program with additional experience.
• Experience with ASME NQA-1 2000 or equivalent quality programs is required.

Want to lead the future of nuclear energy? The Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T) directorate at Idaho National Laboratory is hiring R&D Project Managers to work within our Nuclear Fuels and Materials division.

You will manage brilliant and hard-working teams who own the design, fabrication, irradiation, shipment, and post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel and materials experiments, overseeing scope, budget, schedule, and technical milestones from start to completion. You will provide leadership across multiple disciplines including quality, engineering, regulatory, and experiment instrumentation, represent NS&T in business discussions with national and international partners, and prepare and execute experiment plans and engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable quality standards enabling the nuclear energy renaissance for the nation.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Manage teams responsible for design, analysis, fabrication, irradiation, shipment, and examination of first-of-a-kind experiments planned for irradiation in a nuclear reactor and post-irradiation examinations in nuclear facilities.
• Manage technical experiment interfaces, provide leadership to the experiment team, and gather, analyze, and implement corrective actions for experiment risk, cost, scope, and schedule, including technical milestones.
• Provide direction to and coordination among highly specialized teams of research scientists and engineers focused on nuclear fuel and material testing (irradiation and post-irradiation examination).
• Identify experiment team members to accomplish experiment goals and objectives and work with line management on the assignment of staff.
• Collaborate to develop new experiment procedures and processes.
• Assist in initial experiment negotiations with national and international partners.
• Prepare and execute the Experiment Execution Plan, Functional and Operational Requirements, experiment Data Package, and/or other documents per relevant guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Identify and resolve experiment challenges and execute scope as agreed in the Experiment Execution Plan.
• Organize and provide managerial leadership to experiment teams across multiple technical disciplines and support functions, including quality, regulatory, engineering, analysis, experiment instrumentation.
• Represent NS&T in business discussions and commitments made to partners.
• Interface with external national and international entities, representing the NS&T in business discussions for experiment results in the advancement of nuclear initiatives and technologies.
• Maintain direct partner interface and collaboration, engage strategically with INL, other DOE laboratories, and industry.
• Develop and manage experiment project scope, budget, and execution schedules.
• Prepare and submit monthly experiment highlight reports.
• Prepare and process engineering deliverables.

Required:

• Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering, or related science or other related engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 5 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, or related science or other related engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 2 years of relevant experience
• Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering, or related science or other related engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 9 years of relevant experience; or a Masters in Nuclear Engineering, or related science or other related engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 6 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, or related science or other related engineering from an ABET-accredited program and 4 years of relevant experience.
• Experience and knowledge pertinent to executing work in accordance with standards of ASME NQA-1 2000 as implemented by the INL Quality Program or equivalent is required.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
• This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills to build and maintain high performing collaborative teams using influence.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, or related science from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Demonstrated experience in providing leadership, strategic and tactical planning, and overall leadership and execution of large, complex, and technically challenging programs requiring multidisciplinary integration across multiple organizations.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. Job Information:

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a R&D Project Manager to work on our Irradiation Testing team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Campus facility in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off.

• The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($95,256 - $195,288) / Level 4 ($114,360 - $234,336). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
• Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
