Job summary

Applied Research Laboratories at UT Austin seeks an R&D Network Engineering Scientist to design, implement, and maintain internetworking UNIX networks within the Space and Geophysics Laboratory on the Pickle Research Campus in Austin.

The role focuses on aligning network initiatives with organizational goals, handling cloud-native, on-prem, and hybrid workloads, and advancing security and performance in a DoD-relevant environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Three years developing and maintaining complex networking environments including hybrid/multi-cloud or Cisco topologies.
• Demonstrated strong proficiency with BGP, TCP/IP protocols and packet header structure.
• Must hold, or obtain within six months, a DoD 8140 compliant security certification (e.g., Security+).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement network architectures supporting cloud-native, on-prem, and hybrid workloads.
• Troubleshoot multi-layered network issues across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Automate network configuration and provisioning using configuration management or scripting tools.
• Lead incident response for network outages or performance issues.
• Other related functions as assigned.
