Job summary

SSAB in the United States is seeking a student intern in metallurgy/materials science related fields to support research engineers and analysts in developing new products and improving steel-making processes.

You will assist with metallographic investigations, mechanical testing, heat treatment experiments, and welding practice development in our laboratory and welding lab, gaining hands-on experience across state-of-the-art equipment.

Qualifications

• Freshman year completed at a university.
• Undergraduate pursuit in metallurgy, materials science and engineering, mechanical, or chemical engineering.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Team player with multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with research engineers to develop new products and processes.
• Participate in mill trials for process and product development.
• Perform metallographic investigations and microstructure analysis.
• Support mechanical testing using lab equipment.
• Conduct heat treatment experiments in the laboratory.
• Assist in developing welding practices and weldability assessments.
