Job summary

ABB’s R&D team in the US is seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer to create and maintain high quality mechanical designs for new products and continuous improvement. You’ll apply advanced analysis, lead design initiatives, and collaborate across functions to translate business needs into robust solutions.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in Engineering with 6+ years of experience in FEA, motor design, and manufacturing processes; familiarity with UL/CE/NEMA standards; and proficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and minimum 6 years experience with advanced design methodologies (FEA), manufacturing processes, and customer support experience.
• Working knowledge of UL, CSA, CE, IEEE, IEC, NEMA regulatory compliance (Preferred)
• Proven ability to create accurate documentation, including detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering records, while supporting design changes and revisions.
• Strong command of mechanical performance fundamentals while considering manufacturing processes such as die casting, machining, stamping, plastic molding, fabrication or similar.
• Proficiency in engineering analysis, data reporting, and technical presentations.
• Additional Preferred Experience: Master’s Degree in Engineering, Lean Six Sigma or PMP Certifications, SAP, Ansys, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks CSWP.

Your role and responsibilities:

The R&D Mechanical Engineer is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining high quality mechanical design solutions to support new product development, continuous improvement, and plant/production needs. This role contributes to mechanical design excellence by applying advanced analysis skills, implementing efficient design practices and ensuring alignment with engineering standards.
