Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks an Engineering Support Specialist to advance R&D in electronic materials processing, characterization, and device fabrication. The role includes sample prep, materials analysis, and processing steps with on-site duties in State College, PA.

Ideal candidates will have an Associate Degree and hands-on lab experience, strong communication, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with 2+ years in a relevant lab setting.
• Experience with lab safety practices and handling hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Prepare samples (cutting, lapping, polishing).
• Characterize materials and devices (microscopy, spectroscopy, XRD, electrical testing).
• Perform device processing steps (lithography, etching, deposition).
• Configure furnaces/reactors for vacuum systems and run growth processes.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; analyze data and present results.
