Overview

We currently have an opportunity for a R&D Laboratory Technician at our Manufacturing Facilityin Jacksonville, IL.

Responsibilities

The R&D Laboratory Technician performs laboratory testing and technical evaluations that support product development, product improvements, quality initiatives, and competitive assessments. This role generates accurate, reliable test data, maintains organized laboratory operations, and supports the execution of research and development projects. Working closely with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional teams, the position applies established laboratory methods, documents results, maintains laboratory equipment and records, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards.

Laboratory Testing & Product Evaluation

  • Perform physical property, performance, and end-use testing on Reynolds Consumer Products, raw materials, and competitive products using established laboratory methods.
  • Prepare test samples, operate laboratory equipment, and execute testing procedures in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist with product evaluations, development trials, and validation activities by performing assigned laboratory testing.
  • Troubleshoot routine testing issues and communicate observations that support accurate interpretation of results.

Data Collection & Documentation

  • Accurately record, verify, and maintain laboratory data and test documentation in accordance with established quality standards.
  • Compile laboratory results and assist in preparing summaries that support product development, cost optimization, and competitive evaluations.
  • Maintain organized laboratory records, sample inventories, and testing documentation.
  • Report testing progress, results, and observations to project team members in a timely manner.

Laboratory Operations

  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, equipment, and supplies to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, calibration checks, and basic maintenance as required by laboratory procedures.
  • Follow laboratory safety practices, standard operating procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Assist with laboratory audits, inventory activities, and other operational support as needed.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, testing methods, and documentation practices.
  • Participate in laboratory improvement projects that enhance safety, quality, and process consistency.
  • Support special testing assignments and other research and development activities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Food Science, Packaging, or a related scientific discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • 2-4 years of laboratory, research and development, quality, product testing, or related technical experience.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a research and development, manufacturing, or quality laboratory environment.
  • Experience performing physical property or performance testing on consumer or industrial products.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of laboratory testing principles, scientific methods, and data collection techniques.
  • Ability to perform laboratory testing accurately while managing multiple assignments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret test procedures and communicate results effectively.
  • Knowledge of laboratory documentation practices and quality systems.
