Job description

Research and Development Lab Technician

Salt Lake City, UT, USA

Responsibilities
  • Operate pilot scale prepreg manufacturing lines in an R&D environment to produce next‑generation lightweight composites for aerospace customers.
  • Support pilot production schedule attainment by autonomously procuring raw materials, working with support teams to minimize equipment downtime, and using process troubleshooting knowledge to produce quality material.
  • Assist staff scientists with bench‑scale research work including resin mixing, composite panel lay‑up, microscope imaging, and lab analysis techniques.
  • Create and maintain project documentation such as project timelines, communications, reports, and share project results in the form of presentations with internal teams.
  • Train to established equipment standard operation procedures and update procedures as needed; maintain the work area and manufacturing equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Qualifications
  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • At least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with composite experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem‑solve equipment and processes and learn new processes and procedures.
  • Ability to understand engineering requirements, safety requirements, standard operating procedures, and maintenance instructions.
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and ability to use team collaboration software (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint).
  • Work well with others in a team environment, with dedication, integrity, initiative, and self‑motivation.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel in different groups in both written and oral forms and carry out written and/or oral instructions and procedures.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to manipulate data according to algebraic methods, handle unit conversion, and a basic understanding of statistical principles of mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and confidence intervals.
