Job summary

Momentive in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Summer 2027 R&D Intern for Tire Rubber to research, develop, and validate test methods using existing lab equipment. The role includes literature reviews, method selection, and delivering a documented, repeatable procedure.

The internship focuses on compound characterization, method development, and technical reporting, with on-site 40-hour weeks for 10–12 weeks. Strong documentation and Excel skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in a relevant field.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• On-site 40 hours/week for 10–12 weeks.
• Experience with Excel and basic statistics.
• Clear documentation and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Research existing methods: conduct literature and industry-standard reviews.
• Match method to available equipment: evaluate lab instrumentation and resources; document rationale for chosen approaches.
• Develop the method: design a practical step-by-step testing procedure with sample prep, test parameters, calculations, and data workflow.
• Validate for reliability: design experiments to establish repeatability, reproducibility, and sensitivity; identify variability sources.
• Document and standardize: draft an SOP and supporting docs so others can repeat the method.
• Communicate results: present findings to the technical team and guide implementation into routine lab use.
• Follow EHS protocols: perform all work in compliance with safety rules and chemical handling procedures.
