Job summary

ABB invites motivated engineering students to join as interns in Mebane, NC, onsite/hybrid. You will support ongoing ABB projects, learn from a cross-functional team, and gain practical experience across mechanical and electrical domains, including CAD modeling with Creo and Windchill.

You will contribute to documentation, design reviews, and supplier interactions while developing critical thinking and multitasking abilities in a real-world setting.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering in the United States.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.
  • Strong critical thinking to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams to support ABB's operations and ensure timely project completion within timelines.
  • Identify solutions for clients by understanding customer needs and ABB's offerings.
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and collaborative efforts.
  • Seek feedback from manager and team to improve performance and skills.
  • Learn and execute designs with Creo/Windchill to create models, drawings, and BOMs for mechanical/electrical parts.
  • Prepare and maintain product documentation, manuals, notebooks, and regulatory-compliant design/test documentation.

This position reports to:

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.

The work model for the role is onsite/hybrid in Mebane, NC.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Collaborating with various teams to support ABB's operations, ensuring effective coordination and timely project completion within the defined timelines.
  • Leveraging insights about customer needs and ABB's offerings to identify suitable solutions for clients, leading to project results that meet customer expectations.
  • Participating in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and other collaborative efforts.
  • Seeking feedback and guidance from manager and team members to improve performance and skills.
  • Learn and execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts.
  • Prepare and maintain product documentation, instruction manuals, project notebooks, design and test documentation and learning Regulatory standards UL, CSA and NEC.
  • Actively participate in design reviews, analyze concepts, and cost effectiveness of the Mechanical/Electrical designs.
  • Support engineering cross functional team collaboration and activities with purchasing and manufacturing. Assist Purchasing in supplier selection and component evaluation.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering in the United States.

The hourly rate is determined by things such as the successful applicant's qualifications, graduation year and experience. This position is expected to pay between $20 - $34 per hour.
