ABB in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced R&D Hardware Engineer to help drive high-power UPS development. You will design system architectures, specify requirements, run circuit simulations, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize power electronics integration.
Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with 2+ years of experience in EMI design, environmental and safety compliance, and strong documentation skills (ECNs, BOMs).
In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. We are looking for an R&D Hardware Engineer to join our Electrification business. The selected candidate will join a team working on High Power UPS product lines.

You will be mainly accountable for:
Execute a variety of complex technology and engineering assignments. Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints. Design system architectures, define technical specifications, perform circuit simulations, and develop projects requiring expertise in analog, digital, and power systems. Optimize designs by identifying advanced technical, architectural, and circuitry solutions to maximize mechanical, electrical, and PCBA integration in collaboration with cross-functional product development teams. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for systems, components, and interfaces.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
2+ years of experience with electrical systems and complex power electronic systems.
Experience in digital and analog circuit design and simulation and hands-on experience with EMI design, mitigation, and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for industrial products, as well as familiarity with product regulations and industry standards (including IEC and UL).
Proficiency in documentation systems, including Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs) and Bills of Materials (BOMs) and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a complex, cross-functional organization.
Excellent command of English (both written and verbal).
Candidates must hold a valid US work authorization permitting them to work for ABB in the United States.
