Job summary

Kalmar is seeking an embedded software engineer to develop and validate software for terminal tractors. You will define models, validate performance, and ensure safety compliance while collaborating with global teams. The role involves MiL/SiL/HiL verification and on-vehicle testing.

Recent graduates and experienced engineers are invited to apply. A strong foundation in system modeling, V-model development, and CAN bus knowledge is expected, with a willingness to learn and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or CS.
  • Recent graduates and experienced engineers welcome.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink for system modeling is a plus.
  • ISO 26262 knowledge is a plus.
  • Understanding of the V-model in software development is expected.
  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical topologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAN bus protocols (J1939, UDS) is desired.
  • Willingness to learn new software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Support vehicle system modeling and simulation.
  • Define test plans and analyze results to meet requirements.
  • Plan and execute development activities per schedules.
  • Verify and validate vehicle control with MiL/SiL/HiL simulations.
  • On-vehicle software testing and debugging.
  • Collaborate with TT Engineering, PMs, Sourcing & Production teams.
  • Domestic and international travel required.
  • Proactively learn product aspects related to software development.

Purpose of the position:

Develop and validate embedded software for current and future terminal tractors (TTs). This includes requirement definition, building and enhancing models to accurately simulate vehicle characteristics, validate performance, and ensure compliance with safety standards. Provide support for other related development tasks as required.

What are your key responsibilities:
  • Supporting vehicle system modeling and simulation
  • Defining test plans and completing analysis to ensure system requirements are met
  • Planning and performing development activities according to specified requirements and time schedules
  • Verification and validation of vehicle control system functions using MiL, SiL, and HiL simulation
  • Perform on-vehicle software testing and troubleshooting
  • Supporting with software development and troubleshooting as needed
  • Will be required to work closely with other TT Engineering personnel, Project Managers, Sourcing & Production groups worldwide.
  • Travel domestically and internationally will be needed
  • Willingness to learn, at a high level, about the product requiring software development is required

What you bring to the role:

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science

Experience:

  • Recent graduates and experienced engineers are encouraged to apply
  • Mobile equipment experience is a plus
  • Experience with system modeling and model-based development using Matlab/Simulink is a plus
  • General knowledge of ISO 26262 is a plus
  • Understanding of the software development V model
  • Understanding of vehicle electrical system topologies preferred
  • Working knowledge of CAN bus including J1939 and UDS protocols
  • Theoretical and applied knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems related to mobile equipment preferred
  • Strong aptitude for learning new software tools to complete above responsibilities
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written
