Honeywell Aerospace in Des Plaines, IL, seeks an R&D Engineer/Scientist II to advance innovative aerospace technologies. You will lead development from concept to prototype, collaborating with cross-functional teams across design, test, and manufacturing to deliver safe, high-performance solutions.

You will report to the Engineering Director and operate on a hybrid schedule, with initial 90-day onsite requirement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (science/engineering/technology/mathematics).
• 3+ years' experience operating chemical process equipment.
• 3+ years' experience in R&D projects within a technology or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with engineering tools used in R&D (experimental design, data analysis, simulation).
• Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to innovative solutions.

• Support R&D of air purification and catalysis technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive tech development from design to commercialization.
• Design, build, and test chemicals, materials, and prototypes; operate gas and liquid test stands.

Job description

As a R&D Engineer/Scientist II here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will engage in research and development activities to create innovative solutions that address complex challenges in aerospace technology. You will contribute technical expertise and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance Honeywell Aerospace's mission of delivering cutting-edge aerospace products and services.

You will report directly to our Engineering Director, and you'll work out of our Des Plaines, IL location on a hybrid work schedule.

Hybrid Work Schedule Note: For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.

In this role, you will impact the development of new technologies and products that enhance safety, efficiency, and performance in aerospace applications, supporting Honeywell Aerospace's leadership in the industry.

• Support the research and development of air purification and catalysis technologies that provide competitive advantages at the component and system levels
• Work with cross-functional R&D, engineering, manufacturing teams to drive the development of key technologies from early design to commercialization
• Design, build, and test chemicals, materials, subsystem prototypes as well as gas and liquid test stands
• Analyze data to find critical factors and gain a fundamental understanding of science behind key technologies
• Communicate results to project leads, leadership, and customers
• Complete tasks within planned schedule and budget
• Support customer relationships & external funding opportunities on new technologies
• Contribute to our world-class safety and environmental stewardship program by always operating in a safety-conscious manner
• Apply learning and knowledge to multiple product lines

YOU MUST HAVE

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
• 3+ years' experience operating chemical process equipment
• 3+ years' experience in performing research and development projects within a technology or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with engineering tools and technologies used in R&D, including experimental design, data analysis, and simulation software.
• Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to innovative solutions development.

The annual base salary range for this position in California, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and Washington State (excluding most major metropolitan areas); and anywhere in Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, and Vermont is $93,000 - $116,000. For Washington DC, and most major metropolitan areas in California, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and Washington State, the annual base salary range is $100,000- $127,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell Aerospace considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
