Job Description
Our client is a leading manufacturer of Medical Devices, seeking a Staff R&D Engineer to join their team on Long Island, NY. The R&D Engineer will lead cradle to launch New Product Development and existing product improvement initiatives. The R&D Engineer will be responsible for the development of specifications and leading design activities. This is a technical engineering role that requires investigation of new processes and application of advanced engineering methodologies. The R&D Engineer will work in a cross-functional team environment and will oversee and mentor junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Identifies and analyzes design problems to achieve optimal solutions that satisfy technical requirements, using internal and external technical resources
- Formulates new, innovative approaches to solve technical problems on a consistent basis
- Uses Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies
- Leads development of product specifications, risk documents and conducts technical and design reviews
- Ensures that project deliverables meet global requirements (regulatory, etc.)
- Supports and participated during internal and external audits
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, Masters or PhD preferred
- 6-12 years of new product development experience in an FDA regulated medical device or pharmaceutical environment using stage-gate development process (candidates with an advanced degree may have fewer years of experience)
- Knowledge of metal and plastic injection molding a plus
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex design and engineering problems
- Experience building experimental test set-ups to characterize and assess functional performance of medical products
- Six Sigma Black Belt a plus
- Excellent communication skills needed
