Job summary

The Sherwin-Williams Company seeks a Protective & Marine R&D Chemist I to execute commercialization activities for the United States and Canada, contributing to project execution and solving problems of moderate complexity.

You will design experiments, maintain documentation, and collaborate with development teams on technology transfers and RM support, while upholding safety and quality standards. Travel up to 10% is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • 1 year coatings experience with epoxy, urethane, color or raw materials.
  • Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
  • Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond coatings.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and executes experiments, performs basic test methods and analysis of results.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed documentation of lab work and project updates.
  • Communicates within department and primary network of contacts.
  • Functions under supervision and establishes own timelines with minimal changes by supervisor.
  • Contributes solutions to moderately complex projects.
  • Write technical reports to convey detailed ideas concisely.
  • Adheres to quality standards per Global Business Management System.
  • Complies with safety and security regulations and keeps a clean work area.
  • Travel for technical conferences and product commercialization support; provide outside customer service.
  • Train or mentor new technicians.
  • Adhere to company safety standards at all times.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job description

This Protective & Marine R&D Chemist I will be responsible for completion of Commercialization activities for the United States and Canada. The R&D Chemist I position is accountable for contributing to the execution of projects and/or the solution of problems with minimal to moderate complexity. Primary responsibilities include supporting/leading projects in the areas of service requests, quality support for current product lines, continuous improvement initiatives, technology transfers, RM support, and other control chemist activities. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with development team to support development and commercialization of new technologies.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • 1 year coatings experience with a focus on epoxy, urethane, color or raw materials.
  • Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
  • Practical understanding of spectral measurement data
  • Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
  • Math knowledge
  • Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond the realm of coatings
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year Protective & Marine coatings experience
  • Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne epoxy and urethane chemistries.
  • Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
  • Proficient in statistics and data analysis.
  • Design of Experiment

Travel Requirements: 10%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.
Successful candidate will be required to sign an Employee Restrictive Covenant Agreement where permitted by law.
This position is also eligible for bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.
