Job summary

Xanadu is seeking a senior engineer to lead photonic quantum hardware development with emphasis on lithography, tapeout, and process integration. You will collaborate across teams to deliver high-performance photonic chips and work with foundry partners to optimize fabrication.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on lithography experience, a track record in tapeout cycles, and strong communication and teamwork skills, with a focus on ultra-low loss photonic components for quantum computing hardware.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 5 years of experience in a foundry environment for semiconductor/photonic products, including ownership of lots and MES involvement.
• Familiarity with standard semiconductor and photonics metrology and failure analysis techniques (SEM, TEM, AFM, defect inspection, ellipsometry, XRR/XRD, SIMS, Raman).
• Familiarity with photonic components such as waveguides, beamsplitters, resonators, MZIs.
• Hands-on expertise with advanced 300mm scanners.
• Experience managing tapeout cycles and reviewing ORC/OPC verification data.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate between internal component teams to ensure hardware requirements are met in chips and circuits.
• Innovate in photonic process development and integration, focusing on ultra-low loss components.
• Collaborate with photonics process engineers to refine fabrication procedures for photonic chips.
• Work with foundry partners to improve lithography approaches while balancing constraints.
• Deliver integrated quantum photonics chips and circuits with multiple components.
• Own the lithography/tapeout module from layout receipt to final wafer patterning.
• Define OPC aggressiveness, dummy fill rules, and ORC targets.
• Develop and enforce the Lithography Design Rule Manual and provide DFM feedback.
• Define scanner illumination and tune NA/Sigma for max process windows.
• Run focus/exposure matrices, optimize photoresist/BARC chemistries, establish metrology baselines.
• Stay updated on new developments in photonics fabrication and patterning.
