Amazon Science in Pasadena, CA is hiring a Fabrication R&D Scientist to develop and optimize semiconductor and superconducting qubit fabrication processes. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to advance next-generation quantum processors.

You will plan experiments, analyze data, and stay current with novel fabrication approaches while contributing to both in-cleanroom and out-of-cleanroom activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent.
  • Experience in fabricating superconducting quantum circuit and/or packaging components.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with engineers, scientists and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize processes to fabricate high-coherence superconducting qubits.
  • Develop advanced 3D interconnect and routing technologies for integrating superconducting quantum technologies.
  • Analyze inline metrology and electrical test data.
  • Maintain integration documentation, design rules, and SOPs.
  • Collaborate with project leads to drive process improvement and innovation.

A day in the life
The candidate will develop novel technologies using micro-/nano-fabrication techniques inside the cleanroom (independently or in collaboration with other scientists and engineers) for next-generation quantum computing. Outside the cleanroom, the candidate will plan experiments, analyze data, and conceive future innovations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent
  • Experience in fabricating superconducting quantum circuit and/or packaging components
  • Effective at managing multiple tasks/projects and working independently or within a team environment with other engineers, scientists, and technicians who might have a wide range of technical skill levels
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with any programming language such as Python, Java, C++

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
