Berkeley Lab’s Applied Mathematics and Computational Research Division invites applications for a Quantum Algorithms Postdoctoral Fellow in the QC 3 program. You will develop scalable quantum subspace methods and design circuits for neutral-atom QPUs, validating techniques on superconducting materials discovery and related experiments.

You will work with mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, and domain scientists to publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present at leading

Qualifications

  • PhD required in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated research in quantum algorithms, preferably for chemistry or materials science.
  • Strong background in numerical linear algebra, including matrix decompositions and iterative methods.
  • Experience compiling quantum algorithms and running experiments on quantum hardware.
  • First-author publications in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating scientific writing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Krylov-inspired quantum subspace methods.
  • Design, compile, and optimize quantum circuits for neutral atom QPUs.
  • Develop and evaluate partial quantum error correction and mitigation techniques.
  • Collaborate with mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, and domain scientists.
  • Disseminate findings through publications and conferences.
