Job summary

IBM Quantum seeks a Quantum Algorithm Engineer to drive research in quantum information science and applications, focusing on superconducting hardware and HPC integration to demonstrate quantum advantage.

You will design and optimize quantum algorithms, model system performance, and deliver production-ready software that bridges theory and real-world utility for researchers and enterprise developers within the IBM Quantum stack.

Qualifications

• M.Sc. in Physics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience; with 3+ years of hands-on experience in quantum computing, running near-term algorithms in quantum hardware.
• Experience in academic and/or industry research, and a track record of scientific publications.
• Excellent programming skills in Python, Qiskit, and the IBM Quantum software stack; deep understanding of quantum computing architecture in software, middleware and hardware.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address challenges, including transpilation, error suppression and mitigation techniques.
• Project management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines; strategic direction and stakeholder influence.

Responsibilities

• Drive research in quantum information science and applications, focusing on superconducting hardware and HPC integration to achieve quantum advantage.
• Lead high-visibility technology demonstrations for strategic partners and the broader scientific community.
• Design and adapt quantum algorithms for diverse domains and optimize execution on dedicated and cloud-based systems.
• Collaborate with software, product, and external stakeholders to define roadmaps and deliver tools for researchers and enterprise developers.
• Engineer production-ready software across the IBM Quantum stack to enable reliable R&D across domains.
• Develop educational resources to make quantum advancements accessible to researchers from diverse backgrounds.
