Job description

Quantitative Researcher / Research Engineer – Systematic Commodities

Finna Group is working with a highly successful systematic commodities team looking to add a Quantitative Researcher / Research Engineer to its growing research capability.

Working directly alongside a senior quantitative researcher, you’ll contribute to the development of systematic strategies across power and broader energy markets, while also working on research and tooling used across oil and refined products.

This is deliberately a broad mandate.

We’re looking for an agnostic, holistic problem solver who is comfortable moving between quantitative research, modelling, data and engineering. You don't need to fit neatly into a traditional "Quant Researcher" or "Software Engineer" box.

What we're looking for
  • Exceptional programming ability and strong software fundamentals
  • Experience solving complex quantitative or computational problems
  • Strong analytical and mathematical reasoning
  • Background in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering or another quantitative/STEM discipline
  • Ability to take loosely defined problems and work independently from first principles
  • Comfortable working across research, data, modelling and production-quality code
  • Genuine intellectual curiosity and willingness to challenge assumptions
  • Commodities, energy or systematic trading experience is highly desirable
The opportunity

You’ll work directly with an experienced quantitative researcher building systematic strategies across power while contributing to research initiatives spanning the wider energy complex.

Rather than joining a narrowly defined research function, you'll have the autonomy to attack problems wherever they sit - whether that's developing a model, interrogating a dataset, building research infrastructure, improving an existing strategy or exploring an entirely new approach.

For someone who enjoys difficult problems, strong engineering and quantitative research without being constrained to a single methodology or market, this is an unusually broad mandate.

Location: California, with remote/hybrid flexibility
