Job summary

Viridan Group in Houston, TX, seeks a Quantitative Risk Analyst to strengthen its energy modeling and risk analytics across power and natural gas portfolios. This hands-on role delivers quantitative insights for fuel strategy, dispatch optimization, margin and basis exposure, and project economics.

You will build models using Excel, Python and SQL, run Monte Carlo simulations, develop nodal/forward curves, and contribute to dashboards in Power BI or Tableau, reporting to Commercial Operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, applied mathematics, finance, economics, statistics or related quantitative field.
  • 2–6 years of relevant industry experience in energy modeling, risk analytics or quantitative valuation.
  • Understanding of power and natural gas markets, including heat rates, dispatch, basis and transportation.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience applying and explaining probabilistic methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings for nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, build tools from the ground up and operate effectively with incomplete data.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze price volatility, correlation structures and margin drivers across fuel, basis and power markets.
  • Model plant-level earnings and margin at risk using deterministic and probabilistic methods.
  • Run Monte Carlo simulations, sensitivities and scenario analyses.
  • Support transaction-level risk measurement, including exposures, sensitivities and VaR-type metrics.
  • Evaluate fuel supply, storage, transportation and dual-fuel dispatch constraints.
  • Support PPA valuation, tolling agreements, heat-rate options and project economics.
  • Build nodal and hourly shape curves, forward curves and seasonal adjustments.
  • Build and maintain models using Excel, Python and SQL.
  • Contribute to dashboards and reporting in Power BI or Tableau.
