Job summary

Avery Dennison is seeking a Quality Technician in Ohio to maintain lab operations, perform product testing, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The role emphasizes independent work, strong decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration to uphold safety and quality standards.

The position runs 7am-3pm, Monday through Friday, with opportunities to engage in audits, supplier documentation, and customer-facing reporting. A background in coatings or lab settings is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years manufacturing experience or 1+ year dedicated manufacturing experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to anticipate needs and work independently.
  • Computer proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing; familiarity with internal databases (MFG-Pro, QIS, AODocs, MARS).
  • Experience in coating, finishing, or a lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Lab Operations: support daily lab functions, manage inventory, calibrate equipment.
  • Product Testing & Analysis: perform testing and inspections per ISO 9001.
  • Floor Support: guide manufacturing teams, troubleshoot quality issues, assist in root-cause analysis.
  • Data & Documentation: maintain records, manage retained samples, enter data in core systems (QIS, MFGPro, Google Sheets, AODocs, MARS).
  • Process Improvement: participate in CI initiatives and support training for manufacturing personnel.
  • Operational Excellence: ensure safety and standards to minimize downtime and scrap.

Job description

As a Quality Technician, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring product excellence. This is a high-impact, independent position where your technical expertise and decision-making drive real results. You’ll navigate digital systems, manage critical product dispositions, and collaborate across teams to resolve challenges in real-time. Core Responsibilities
  • Quality Lab Operations: Support daily lab functions, manage lab inventory, and facilitate equipment maintenance and calibration.

  • Product Testing & Analysis: Perform testing and inspections across production stages (including product age and retesting) in compliance with ISO 9001 standards.

  • Floor Support: Provide guidance to manufacturing teams, troubleshoot quality issues, and assist in root-cause problem solving.

  • Data & Documentation: Maintain accurate records, manage retained samples, and enter data into our core systems (QIS, MFGPro, Google Sheets, AODocs, and MARS).

  • Process Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., ELS events) and support quality-related training for manufacturing personnel.

  • Operational Excellence: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operating standards to minimize downtime and scrap.

Site & Division-Specific Tasks

Depending on site location and workflow, you may also be assigned the following responsibilities:

  • Supplier Documentation: Manage incoming and outgoing Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) and resolve documentation gaps with suppliers and internal testing.

  • Customer Support: Prepare and distribute test reports, respond to customer inquiries, and act as a key QA contact during audits.

  • Risk Coordination: Attend tier meetings to communicate testing status and shipment risks.

Safety Standards
  • Consistently practice all health and safety policies.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment.

  • Participate in required safety training and lead lab-specific safety initiatives.

Core
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus 3+ years of relevant manufacturing experience, OR 1+ year of dedicated manufacturing experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to anticipate needs and work independently.

  • Computer proficiency (spreadsheets, word processing, and internal databases like MFG-Pro, QIS, AODocs, and MARS).

  • Previous experience in coating, finishing, or a lab environment.

Preferred
  • 4-year undergraduate degree.

  • Experience with team-based continuous improvement projects.

  • Understanding of pressure-sensitive products and manufacturing processes.
