Job Title: Quality Technician
Summary of Role
The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring product quality, process compliance, and accurate documentation throughout production. The role supports manufacturing by verifying materials, monitoring process conditions, performing testing, and ensuring all finished goods meet customer and internal specifications. The Quality Technician works closely with production teams to identify issues and maintain quality standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Process Monitoring and Verification
- Monitor product quality on assigned lines
- Communicate with process leaders and operators to review issues from previous and current shift
- Verify all testing required by production is complete, within specification and aligned with target values
Product Quality Measurement (as required) – Such As, but not limited to;
- Width
- Weight
- Diameter
- Thickness
- Stiffness
- Tensile (Grab & Elong)
- Adhesion
- Wicking
- Trap & Tear
- T-shirt
Product Quality Visual Inspections - Such As, but not limited to;
- Needle Lines
- Voids
- Thick / Thin
- Harmonics
- Trim
Testing and Data Collection
- Perform and verify required testing
- Ensure testing is complete at required intervals and results are within specification
- Retest and elevate out of specification results per the procedure
- Record and maintain accurate test data
- Enter and save data accurately in the Quality database
Process and set-up Verification
- Verify machine settings align with product specifications
- Line Speed
- Temp Settings (IR, Calendar)
- Identify and report deviations, ensuring proper documentation or escalation
Raw Material Verification (as required, Union facility)
- Confirm correct raw materials are in use
- Verify fiber percentage and blends are correct/match control systems and specifications
- Escalate discrepancies to management
Inventory and Roll Quality Control
- Inspect staged and current production rolls to ensure
- Proper roll build
- Double wrapping end to end
- Diameter is within specification
- Ensure proper labeling and status of rolls
- Rolls are in the correct locations, i.e., Nonconforming and first quality rolls are in correct locations / not mixed
Nonconforming / Hold Materials Management (Union facility)
- Accurately disposition hold / nonconforming materials (reclaim, re-roll, waste or upgrade)
- Verify nonconforming areas are organized and comply with procedures
- Verify cut accuracy
- Verify diameters and cross-cut alignments
- Verify correct material orientation i.e. calendar side
- Perform hourly run. Speed and blend checks
- Investigate quality issues
Documentation and Reporting (Union facility)
- Compile work order packets and quality documentation
- Verify all quality requirements are met prior to order completion
- Maintain and complete sample folders
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Manufacturing or quality experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment
Skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to identify defects and address
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
- Standing, walking, bending, and lifting are required
- May support multiple production lines and departments
