Technique is seeking a Quality Technician 2 for our Jackson, Michigan facility. You will independently complete customer inspections, lead training on metrology tools, and assemble PPAP/first article packages while performing final and in-process inspections.

You will program PolyWorks, manage calibration programs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment. Strong GD&T knowledge and ISO 9001 experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering technology or related field.
• 3–5 years of hands-on quality control in manufacturing or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and ability to explain/teach it to others.
• Experience with PPAP submissions and 8D/5-Why/Fishbone methodologies.
• Proficient in PolyWorks programming and CMM operation.

Responsibilities

Job description

Technique is looking for a Quality Technician 2 to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Quality Manager in the Quality department. Building on Level 1 competencies, the Quality Technician 2 independently completes customer-specific inspection requirements, leads quality training for new associates, assembles and submits PPAP and first article packages, and performs final, in-process, and first-piece inspections for purchased and manufactured product. This role also drives continuous improvement projects, manages calibration programs, authors complete PolyWorks CMM inspection programs, and professionally represents Technique when interacting with customer representatives.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in engineering technology or a related technical field, with three to five years of hands‑on quality control experience in manufacturing or engineering. Strong working knowledge of GD&T (including the ability to explain and teach it), proven experience with PolyWorks CMM programming, SPC methods, calibration using GAGEpack, PPAP submission, and completed CARs using 8D/5‑why/fishbone methodologies are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

• Independently complete customer inspection requirements – Fully complete all customer-specified inspection requirements independently, ensuring all results are documented and meet customer and blueprint specifications.
• Manage quality plans and product containment – Understand and explain quality plans, quality spills, and product containment; segregate and evaluate nonconforming product, providing insight and feedback.
• Lead quality training for new associates – Lead quality training for new associates and mentor team members on the use of metrology tools, software, and inspection techniques including CMM, comparators, and surface plate layout.
• Assemble and submit PPAP and quality packages – Assemble and submit PPAP, first article inspections, source releases, and quality packages; complete and adhere to customer-specific requirements including MSA, Gage R&R, special characteristics, CpK/Ppk, and PPAP dimensional layout.
• Perform final, in-process, and first-piece inspections – Perform final, in-process, and first-piece inspections for purchased and manufactured product; use prints to provide precise information on dimensions, tolerances, and special characteristics to various departments.
• Program and operate CMM with PolyWorks – Write complete PolyWorks inspection programs for all parts, fixtures, and gages; operate CMMs using established programs; write CPCS for periodic spot checks per control plans; obtain and install PolyWorks software updates to required workstations.
• Manage and perform calibration – Manage and monitor calibration of equipment to industry and software standards using GAGEpack; perform and/or assist with calibration of inspection fixtures, gauges, and hand‑held metrology tools per the established schedule; address countermeasures if calibration issues arise.
• Provide inspection reports and dimensional feedback – Provide understandable inspection reports to technicians and management; prepare detailed dimensional reports from high-accuracy portable 3D measuring arm systems; compare results with customer and blueprint specifications and calculate differences.
• Complete corrective actions and SPC studies – Complete CARs using 8D, 5-why, fishbone, and related problem-solving tools; complete capabilities studies (SPC) using Minitab, GAGEpack, or Excel; exhibit working knowledge of statistical process control methods.
• Support part development and reverse engineering – Assist technicians with part development across stampings, machined components, tubing, 3D laser-cut components, and assemblies; assist with reverse engineering activities related to corrective action, process improvement, or customer activities; develop, update, and modify programming to support such activities.
• Submit IMDS and customer portal documentation – Complete IMDS submissions and create and submit customer documentation via assigned customer portal websites; exhibit excellent record-keeping ability.
• Set up and maintain precision measurement equipment – Set up and operate surface profilometer, sonic checker/thickness, and optical comparator; ensure precision machinery is in working condition and properly calibrated prior to use; perform and/or assist with repair, rework, and modification of existing inspection tools.
• Represent Technique with customers – Professionally represent Technique when interacting with customer representatives; communicate effectively across multiple tiers of the organization.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or associate’s degree in engineering technology or other technical field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
• Three to five years of hands‑on experience in quality control related to manufacturing or engineering
• Strong knowledge and working experience with GD&T, including the ability to read blueprints and explain GD&T to others
• Experience in an ISO 9001 environment, including understanding of the Quality System and document levels
• Demonstrated ability to write complete PolyWorks inspection programs and operate CMMs; experience obtaining and installing PolyWorks software updates
• Experience with laser inspection (PolyWorks), surface plate & height gages, profilometers, optical comparators, thread gages, pin gages, micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and angle gages
• Experience with SPC (Minitab) and calibration management (GAGEpack); exhibited working knowledge of statistical process control methods
• Experience assembling and submitting PPAP packages, first article inspections, and customer‑specific documentation via customer portals
• Strong root‑cause analysis skills and experience completing CARs using 8D, 5‑why, and fishbone problem‑solving tools
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with demonstrated ability to interact across multiple organizational tiers and train others
• Deadline and detail-oriented with strong time management skills and strong computer knowledge (Microsoft Office)
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and elevated noise levels
• No travel expected for this position
• Must be eligible to work in the United States by means of U.S. Citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship

Position Type and Expected Hours:

This is a full‑time non‑exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed. Days and hours required may vary. Flexibility is required.
