Job summary

Aspen Aerogels, Inc. in East Providence, RI, seeks a Quality Control Technician to perform laboratory testing and quality checks on materials used in insulation products. The role focuses on QC and process control, sample handling, and accurate data recording.

You will maintain instruments, assist with test procedures, and ensure compliance with safety standards while contributing to a culture of safety, quality, integrity, and teamwork at Aspen Aerogels.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• Basic software proficiency with accounting/inventory tools and MS Office.
• Hands-on experience with analytical equipment is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing to determine material quality for QC and process control.
• Prepare samples, record test results, and ensure data traceability.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with EH&S requirements and company standards.
• Support data entry and documentation in LIMS/related systems.

What You Will Do-

The quality control technician performs laboratory testing to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of materials for quality control and process control by performing the following duties:

How Will You Do It-

Quality Oversight & Compliance

• Assures all job activities adhere to company Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements.
• Ensuring all samples processed through the QC lab are handled and tested safely, precisely, accurately, and efficiently.
• Submits written and verbal responses to out‑of‑control test results and escalates when appropriate.
• Adopts and follows Aspen’s core values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, Teamwork, Customer Focus, and Innovation.

Testing & Sample Management

• Conducts all various assigned testing procedures, including:
• incoming raw materials (e.g., batting inspections),
• in‑process materials (e.g., mechanical testing of blankets),
• finished products.
• Prepares chemical solutions and standards according to defined formulas.
• Records test results in spreadsheets and designated forms.

Equipment & Process Control

• Performs quality control checks on laboratory instruments and equipment and identifies mechanical issues.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions as needed.
• Escalates calibration and repair needs for instruments to the designated responsible individual.
• Monitors supply inventory and request additional supplies to ensure uninterrupted lab operations.

Data Entry & Documentation

• Maintains all testing records in SQC Pack and other specialized laboratory software.
• Accurately enters complete data records into the electronic data management system.
• Ensures proper documentation and traceability for all assigned work.

Workplace Standards

• Maintains good housekeeping standards in the laboratory and work environment.
• Works independently with minimal supervision while demonstrating strong self‑motivation.
• Cooperate with other personnel to support departmental and interdepartmental objectives and maintain positive employee relations.

Other Responsibilities

• Performs additional duties as assigned or requested.
• Supports management with other related tasks as needed.

• Computer skills required: Accounting Software; Inventory Software; Microsoft Office Suite;
• Hands‑on experience with analytical equipment such as balances, mechanical test equipment, and chromatography is desirable
• Basic knowledge of statistics and control charting desirable
