Job summary

ASTEC seeks a Facility Liaison to uphold quality processes within the Quality System, lead root-cause investigations, and drive corrective actions. You will work with suppliers on part quality, support First Article Inspections, and ensure compliance with company quality standards and specifications across shifts.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, strong analytical and communication skills, and experience in ISO9001 and quality control.

  • Evaluate production processes for capability and variation and implement controls
  • Ensure purchased parts meet specs via First Article inspections and supplier collaboration
  • Provide feedback to Production and Engineering for quality enhancements
  • Manage QA records, data entry, and document control within the QA system

About The Position

Facility liaison on Astec Quality System ensuring quality processes are followed, refined & adhered too. Utilizing Quality Management System tools (QC tools, Statistical analysis, teamwork, etc.) lead root cause investigations on quality issues & follow-up on corrective actions. Through data analysis & operator input determine & establish best practices then develop training plan with Production Supervisors to train across shifts. Work with purchasing & directly with suppliers on purchased part quality issues. Utilize & follow Astec First Article Inspection process for applicable new parts to ensure compliance with company quality standards & specifications.

Key Deliverables
  • Implement and maintain quality management system (QMS) in accordance with ISO9001
  • Initiate and manage non-conformance reports with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Initiate and manage root-cause-correction initiatives to identify and resolve defect opportunities
  • Work w/ stakeholders to identify and drive out opportunities for failure
Key Activities & Responsibilities
  • Maintain calibration records and ensure measurement devices and standards conform to QMS requirements
  • Generate serial tags and equipment logs to enable warranty and after-sales service support
  • Generate document test and certification packages to satisfy factory acceptance testing requirements
  • Follow, develop, and communicate proper methods for inspection, product identification, and process documentation
  • Evaluate production process capabilities and variation tendencies and implement process controls.
  • Quality of Purchased Products: Via First Article Inspections and random sampling, ensure purchased products meet required specifications & work with suppliers on in-coming quality standards & expectations.
  • Provide feedback to the Production and Engineering Departments for quality improvements and quality controls.
  • Quality Systems: On a routine basis, update & review existing work instructions, procedures & other quality documents & advise General Manager of needed or potential improvements.
  • Calibration: Develop and maintain a plant calibration program to ensure the accuracy, repeatability and reproducibility of gauges, fixtures, welding machines, and measurement devices as required.
  • Quality Assurance Records: Maintain and utilize QA records, including data entry, tracking and control of documents to help ensure a robust Quality Management System. Enhance “defect” database and utilize for data analysis (statistical and graphical) for problem solving and prevention.
  • Perform other duties as determined and assigned by the General Manager
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Engineering Technology with three plus years of Quality Systems background and experience.
  • Understanding of ISO9001 standard and direct experience gathering and presenting required evidentiary documents for surveillance and recertification purposes
  • Ability to work well with others and demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical savvy with strong computer skills and statistical analysis/process control background.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly present information and influence others through written/oral communications.
  • Strong partnering/stakeholder management skills across different functions, locations, and cultures.
  • Strong change and project management capabilities and experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
