Job summary

Mortenson Construction seeks an experienced Quality Manager for Utilities and Civil work. You will lead the quality system on medium to large projects, drive corrective actions, and collaborate with project teams and contractors to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, 3+ years in quality leadership within construction, and proficiency in Excel and Primavera Unifier. Travel to project sites is expected as needed.

Job description

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Quality Manager - Utilties/Civil with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem-solve and bring together viable solutions. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important. The Quality Manager will lead, manage, document, monitor, and analyze the quality system on medium to large projects. Also, ensure necessary corrective and preventative actions are taken.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide multiple quality management oversight for underground utility construction, including stormwater, duct bank, wastewater, and water systems.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality management procedures and processes.
  • Ensure project teams properly establish and follow quality requirements, standards, and documentation processes.
  • Review and interpret project specifications, contract requirements, and utility quality standards across multiple owners and projects.
  • Coordinate and support testing activities and requirements, including pressure testing, hydrology testing, and other utility system verification processes.
  • Work with project teams and contractors to ensure testing programs are properly planned, executed, and documented.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in Quality Management (QM) methods, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct quality reviews, audits, inspections, and follow-up activities to drive compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with project managers, field teams, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve quality-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor and communicate quality performance metrics, risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as a remote-based quality resource with regular travel to project sites as needed.
  • Lead quality processes and potentially manage and develop a quality team as project demands grow.
  • Leverage experience on large-scale utility infrastructure projects, with particular emphasis on underground utility systems and construction quality.
  • Maintain strong familiarity with construction specifications, standards, and technical documentation, with the ability to interpret complex project requirements and apply them consistently across varied project environments.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field
  • Minimum three years' experience in the design, engineering, or construction industry with experience leading a project's quality system
  • Strong attention to detail to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Primavera Unifier
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of one or more quality systems: i.e., Malcolm Baldridge, ISO 9000, Lean, Kaizen, Army Corps of Engineers, Mortenson's Quality System, continuous improvement, value streams, etc.
  • Experience with issue management, and inspection of work put in place
  • Completed training in basic project management and supervision
  • Current driver's license

The base pay range for this role is $100,100 MIN - $150,200 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
