Job summary

Urban Sky is building the next chapter of stratospheric history and expanding to Texas. The Quality Manager will implement and maintain the QMS at the new Texas location, ensuring compliance with aviation standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.

The role leads quality assurance activities, audits, and continuous improvement to support product safety, reliability, and conformance. Collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain is essential to meet quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, manufacturing, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years quality management experience in the Stratospheric Platform industry preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading audits and interfacing with customers and regulators.
  • Proficiency with statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, EASA, and applicable internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Manage internal, customer, supplier audits, including corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Manage Metrology Lab and Calibration Schedules.
  • Direct and manage quality control technicians.
  • Operational review board (ORB) managing member.
  • Ensure quality planning and risk management throughout product lifecycle (APQP, FMEA, control plans).
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Program Management, Directors and VPs to ensure quality objectives are met.

Urban Sky is a venture-backed aerospace startup on a mission to pioneer humanity’s routine, easy access to the stratosphere and the value locked within it. We design, build, operate, and sell stratospheric balloon systems. The data we collect supports a wide range of applications, from real-time wildfire monitoring to urban mapping. Our technology is also employed by government customers including the Department of War (DoW), NASA, and others. Urban Sky sends flight vehicles to the stratosphere on a weekly basis.

Urban Sky’s idealQuality Manageris responsible forplanning, developing, implementing, andmaintainingthe organization’s Quality Management System (QMS)at the new Texas locationto ensure compliance withcorporate quality policies,industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. This role providessite specificleadership for quality assurance, continuous improvement, audits, and cross-functional coordination to ensure product safety, reliability, and conformance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead andmaintaincompliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, EASA, and applicableinternal,customer,and regulatoryrequirements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Manage internal, customer, supplier, and regulatory audits, including corrective and preventiveactions.
  • Manage Metrology Lab and Calibration Schedules
  • Strong understanding of flexible material testing preferred.
  • Direct and manage quality controltechnicians.
  • Operational review board (ORB) managingmember.
  • Ensure quality planning and risk management throughout product lifecycle (APQP, FMEA, control plans)
  • Participate in nonconformance management, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Program Management, Director’s and VPs to ensure quality objectives are met.
  • Establish and track quality metrics (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage supplier quality performance, including audits and performance improvement plans.
  • Ensure proper configuration management, document control, and records retention.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop quality team members.
  • Support customer quality requirements, issue resolution, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and airworthiness requirements.
  • Compile and present QTRLY QA reviews and presentations in relation to site location.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+years of quality management experience in theStratospheric Platformindustrypreferred
  • In-depth knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace regulatory requirements
  • Experience leading audits and interfacing with customers andregulators.
  • Strongproblem-solving skillsusing tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, SPC, FMEA
  • ProficiencywithStatisticalSoftware suites such as JMPor Minitab
