Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years quality, engineering or manufacturing experience.
  • 2+ years supervisory/management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ISO/TS quality systems and budgeting basics.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the plant quality function by developing an effective quality system.

GENERAL SUMMARY (Describe the overall duties and responsibilities of the job):

  • Manage the plant quality function, ensuring that customer expectations and quality-related business goals are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties required for successful job performance):

  • Manage the plant quality function by developing an effective quality system, ensuring that all associates know their role within the system, and verifying that all elements of the system are followed appropriately.
  • Ensure that all quality-related business goals are met by facilitating the tracking and reporting of all quality metrics, verifying that all Quality Dep’t. associates are aware of appropriate monitoring and measuring processes, working with personnel both inside and outside of the quality function to address gaps, and monitoring and maintaining the departmental budget.
  • Ensure that all customer expectations are met by understanding all requirements (including IPPAARs and IPPs), clearly establishing those expectations with all associates, facilitating the communication of any customer issues to all affected associates, and working with all Plant functions to identify and address and gaps that exist.
  • Ensure Plant’s compliance with all ISO/TS 16949 requirements by managing an effective auditing system, regularly auditing processes and procedures, and identifying and addressing any gaps that are discovered.
  • Ensure excellent customer relations by being responsive to all customer inquiries, being an effective liaison between the customers and all Plant / Corporate functions, and verifying customer expectations are met.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (These are the traditional minimum, or required, bona-fide occupational qualifications and other requirements of most people in this job).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business-related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4 years’ quality, engineering, or manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of two years’ supervisory / management experience

  • Knowledge of ISO/TS Quality systems development and maintenance

REQUIRED DECISION-MAKING AND ORGANIZATION IMPACT (Describe the typical types of decisions made by employees in this job and the likely impact of those decisions on the Company).

  • This position will make decisions about how the company will address and countermeasure gaps in the quality system. If decisions are not effective, the company could experience high scrap and/or poor customer quality performance. Negative results could include higher materials cost, higher costs for sorting and penalties, less profit, and loss of existing and/or future business.
  • This position will determine how to / who to inform associates of customer quality issues and concerns. If this is not carried out effectively, problems may not get addressed in a timely manner, internal defective materials may not be inspected and caught, and unnecessary defects may occur in other similar processes elsewhere.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS (Indicate job titles for this job’s supervisor and direct reports).

  • Reports directly to the VP of Quality, with dotted line reporting to the local Plant Manager
  • This position will have direct reports, including the following job positions: Quality Engineer and Quality Analyst

WORKING CONDITIONS (Describe the environment within which the work is performed).

  • Mix of plant floor and office environment, approximately 70% / 30%
  • Occasional travel possible, mostly day trips
  • Ability to work overtime of varying levels

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to travel throughout the plant floor environment, including manufacturing cells
  • Periodically may require keyboarding for extended periods of time
