Job summary

Mactac, Scranton, PA, seeks a Quality Manager to lead the site Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015) and drive QA/QC, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. The role develops and maintains the QMS, trains staff, conducts audits, and partners with operations to ensure product specs and process control.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in quality control/quality assurance.
  • Experience leading quality at a manufacturing facility.
  • Roll-to-roll manufacturing experience desirable.
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015 QA systems.
  • Auditing experience with external auditors (customer, UL).
  • Six Sigma/Lean/TQM/TQC certifications desirable.
  • Ability to manage large, complex activities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to lead with or without direct supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Strong decision-making with limited data.
  • Analytical with problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Able to adapt to rapid change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the ISO 9001:2015 QMS and act as system management representative.
  • Ensure long-term QMS compliance via audits and reporting.
  • Build a professional QA team with continuous improvement focus.
  • Train staff in audit methods, measurement systems, statistics, and problem solving.
  • Integrate QMS with R&D, operations, customer service, sales, and marketing to satisfy customers.
  • Promote a culture of quality within leadership and the site.
  • Lead/participate in CI projects to improve processes, quality, and savings.
  • Oversee CAPA effectiveness for design, materials, and manufacturing.
  • Dispostition non-conforming product balancing customer and company interests.
  • Analyze and report on customer complaints and claims to support CI.
  • Report quality KPIs and supplier performance timely.
  • Maintain stable measurement systems via MSA.
  • Manage vendor material controls and conduct vendor performance analyses.
  • Collaborate with Operations on production/process control for QA/QC/CI.
  • Oversee testing laboratory, equipment, and staff where applicable.
  • Manage FSC certification activities for the site where applicable.

Job description

The Quality Manager serves as a member of the plant leadership team at Mactac's Scranton, PA facility and is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the manufacturing site's Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015). The role ensures, through analysis and audit, that the QMS is both effective and efficient in meeting the overall organizational objectives for quality assurance, quality control and customer satisfaction. Further, the Quality Manager is also responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing continuous improvement projects and processes that ensure products are manufactured to their specifications, via process optimization.

Responsibilities
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Management System, as defined by the ISO 9001:2015 standard, along with other external customer requirements; acting as the system management representative.
  • Ensuring long-term compliance to the Quality Management System through a system of auditing and reporting.
  • Developing a department and staff, which displays both professionalism and competence, relative to recognized methods and behaviors in the realm of quality management and continuous improvement.
  • Effectively training and mentoring staff as required to establish basic knowledge of quality management techniques such as audit, measurement systems, basic statistical methods and application, standardized problem solving, and other relevant topics.
  • Integrating the quality management system to strongly support research & development, operations, customer service, sales, and marketing functions in the achievement of overall customer satisfaction objectives.
  • Promoting and integrating a culture of quality environment within the leadership team and manufacturing site.
  • Facilitating, leading and participating in continuous improvement activities to achieve business objectives.
  • Executing assigned continuous improvement projects, while identifying projects that may lead to better processes, quality, and savings.
  • Overseeing the effectiveness of the Corrective and Preventive Action program, inclusive of all activities, related to the design, materials, and manufacture of product.
  • Dispositioning of non-conforming product in a balanced manner, which protects both the interests of the customer and the organization.
  • Resolving customer complaints and claims effectively and timely, and performing analysis and reporting of claims activity in a manner which supports the continuous improvement efforts of the organization.
  • Reporting on quality key performance and associated metrics – supplier performance, internal and external non-conformances, etc., both timely and accurately.
  • Ensuring stable and predictable performance of measurement systems through established Measurement System Analysis methodologies.
  • Maintaining control and reporting systems for the performance of vendor supplied materials, and performing vendor performance analysis, specifications and problem resolution.
  • Partnering with Operations to establish and maintain the system of production and process control to include quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Managing the testing laboratory, equipment, and technical staff, where applicable.
  • Managing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification related activities for the manufacturing site, where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience in quality control/quality assurance is required.
  • Prior experience leading the Quality function at a manufacturing facility is required.
  • Prior experience in a "roll to roll" manufacturing/processing facility is desirable.
  • Must possess prior experience with quality management systems – ISO 9001:2015.
  • Should possess prior auditing experience, including having worked with external auditors from customer organizations, as well as Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
  • Certification (and/or documented training) in methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Total Quality Management and Total Quality Control is desirable.
  • Ability to manage large, multiple and complex activities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to accomplish work by the direct leadership and guidance of others, with and/or without a direct supervisory relationship, utilizing a collaborative approach.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Must be a confident and adept decision maker and capable of making decisions with time and information constraints.
  • Ability to analyze, solve problems and generate new ideas, across a variety of business processes.
  • Requires ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
  • Ability to function comfortably and effectively in a rapidly changing environment in support of the immediate needs of both the organization and customer base.
