Job summary

SKF in Dexter, MI seeks a Quality Manager to lead quality planning, improvements, and audits across the organization. You will partner with Sales, Engineering, and Production Control to ensure orders meet SKF and customer requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Ten years in manufacturing, with at least five in Quality Assurance.
• Hands-on ISO 9001 quality system experience.
• Experience with AS9001 and Project Management.
• Strong knowledge of Lean, Kaizen, and Six Sigma.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain quality planning and improvement programs.
• Coordinate policies and procedures to meet specifications and requirements.
• Lead department objectives and train personnel to standards.
• Review customer orders with Sales/Engineering to ensure compliance.
• Design and implement improved measurement techniques and calibration.
• Maintain internal quality audits and LPAs for compliance.
• Support supplier audits and establish inspection standards.
• Lead Lean/Six Sigma/Kaisen initiatives to improve processes.
• Prepare monthly quality management reports for management.
• Conduct customer complaint reviews to prevent recurrence.
• Develop QC Plans, FMEAs, and PPAPs with Engineering.

Position Summary:

Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality planning and improvement efforts through the implementation of policies and procedures coordinated throughout the organization to meet business and customer-imposed specifications and requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

1. Formulates department objectives, directs staff activities to meet Company objectives, and ensures that all department personnel are trained to perform their jobs effectively. Administers Company policies, labor agreements and health and safety regulations as required and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
2. Works with Sales, Engineering, and Production Control to evaluate customer orders to ensure that accepted orders meet SKF & Customer requirements during the order review process.
3. Designs, develops, and implements improved measurement techniques, assures plant gaging is currently calibrated and maintained, meets written procedures, standards, and capability.
4. Identifies, develops, implements, and refines the necessary procedures to support and align the overall quality program with ISO/AS and Customer-specific Standards as required. Maintains the internal quality Audit programs, including LPAs, that ensure compliance with procedures and the system requirements.
5. Supports, implements, and maintains our Supplier Quality Audit program to ensure that suppliers and subcontractors meet SKFs quality requirements. Assists suppliers in establishing inspection standards to meet SKF's quality needs.
6. Supports SKFs continuous improvement effort throughout manufacturing and inspection utilizing Lean, Six Sigma and Kaizen methodologies to improve the overall quality of our processes and products.
7. Keeps management informed of potential quality problems utilizing non-conformances, returns, 8D Root Cause processes and problem resolution techniques. Creates monthly Quality management reports.
8. Conducts review of customer complaints to determine what, when, where, and why analysis with emphasis on eliminating future problems or concerns.
9. Works with Engineering to develop Quality Control Plans, FMEAs, and Process Control Procedures and submits PPAPs to ensure production of high-quality finished products that meet customer/SKF quality specifications and standards.
10. Able to manage and run customer audits on site.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent in practical experience.
• Ten (10) years experience in manufacturing (primarily metal removal) including at least five (5) years in Quality Assurance with hands‑on experience in ISO/9001 Quality system and/or similar controls.
• Experience with AS9001
• Experience with Project Management
• Broad and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing methodologies, Lean Sigma, Kaizen, and Six Sigma Methodologies.
• Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills with leadership abilities.
