Job summary

SKF is seeking a Quality Manager in Dexter, MI to develop and maintain robust quality planning and improvement programs across the organization. You will lead internal and supplier audits, align processes with ISO/AS standards, and support PPAP submissions to meet customer specifications.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering, 10 years in manufacturing (5 in QA), and strong leadership with Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, and project management experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ten years of manufacturing experience, five in Quality Assurance with ISO 9001 experience.
  • Experience with ISO/AS quality standards and customer-specific standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality planning and improvement programs.
  • Lead internal audits and supplier quality audits to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, and Production to review orders against SKF and customer requirements.
  • Develop Quality Control Plans, FMEAs, and Process Control Procedures; support PPAP submissions.
  • Lead on-site customer audits and drive continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen.

Position Summary:

Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality planning and improvement efforts through the implementation of policies and procedures coordinated throughout the organization to meet business and customer-imposed specifications and requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Formulates department objectives, directs staff activities to meet Company objectives, and ensures that all department personnel are trained to perform their jobs effectively. Administers Company policies, labor agreements and health and safety regulations as required and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Works with Sales, Engineering, and Production Control to evaluate customer orders to ensure that accepted orders meet SKF & Customer requirements during the order review process.
  • Designs, develops, and implements improved measurement techniques, assures plant gaging is currently calibrated and maintained, meets written procedures, standards, and capability.
  • Identifies, develops, implements, and refines the necessary procedures to support and align the overall quality program with ISO/AS and Customer-specific Standards as required. Maintains the internal quality Audit programs, including LPA’s, that ensure compliance with procedures and the system requirements.
  • Supports, implements, and maintains our Supplier Quality Audit program to ensure that suppliers and subcontractors meet SKF’s quality requirements. Assists suppliers in establishing inspection standards to meet SKF's quality needs.
  • Supports SKF’s continuous improvement effort throughout manufacturing and inspection utilizing Lean, Six Sigma and Kaizen methodologies to improve the overall quality of our processes and products.
  • Keeps management informed of potential quality problems utilizing non-conformances, returns, 8D Root Cause processes and problem resolution techniques. Creates monthly Quality management reports.
  • Conducts review of customer complaints to determine what, when, where, and why analysis with emphasis on eliminating future problems or concerns.
  • Works with Engineering to develop Quality Control Plans, FMEAs, and Process Control Procedures and submits PPAP’s to ensure production of high-quality finished products that meet customer/SKF quality specifications and standards.
  • Able to manage and run customer audits on site.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent in practical experience.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in manufacturing (primarily metal removal) including at least five (5) years in Quality Assurance with hands-on experience in ISO/9001 Quality system and/or similar controls.
  • Experience with AS9001
  • Experience with Project Management
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of manufacturing methodologies, Lean Sigma, Kaizen, and Six Sigma Methodologies.
  • Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills with leadership abilities.
