Job summary

gpac is representing a precision gear and gearbox manufacturer seeking a hands-on Quality Manager to lead the quality function across engineering and production. You will oversee inspection, CAPA, and customer engagements to ensure conformity with customer specs and industry standards.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in gear/gearbox quality leadership, deep knowledge of AGMA and ISO 9001, and a track record of process improvement in tight-tolerance environments.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years leading quality in a gear or gearbox manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience in precision gear and gearbox manufacturing.
  • Experience in high-precision, tight-tolerance production environments.
  • Customer-facing quality leadership experience.
  • Experience with gear inspection methods and equipment, including gear analyzers, CMMs, lead/profile measurement, or runout testing.
  • Experience with heat treat, grinding, hobbing, shaping, and finishing operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of AGMA standards and ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, leadership, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality Department and quality staff.
  • Oversee in-process and final inspection of gears.
  • Ensure ISO 9001 compliance.
  • Apply AGMA standards and customer specs.
  • Oversee CAPA program.
  • Lead root-cause analysis using structured methods.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce scrap and improve capability.
  • Oversee calibration/maintenance of gear analyzers, CMMs, lead/profile tools.
  • Interface with customers on quality concerns and audits.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production on launches and improvements.
  • Monitor PPM, scrap, and on-time delivery impact.

Job description

About The Role

This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for overseeing the entire quality function in a highly engineered, tight‑tolerance gear and gearbox manufacturing environment. The Quality Manager will lead quality assurance and quality control activities across precision gear manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and internal performance objectives. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in gear and gearbox manufacturing, including the unique inspection and process‑control requirements associated with precision gear production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Quality Department, including inspectors and technicians
  • Oversee inspection processes across gear manufacturing operations, including in‑process and final inspection
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable quality standards
  • Interpret and apply AGMA standards and customer specifications
  • Manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Lead root cause analysis using structured problem‑solving methodologies
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and improve process capability
  • Oversee calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment, including gear analyzers, CMMs, and lead/profile measurement tools
  • Interface directly with customers regarding quality concerns, audits, and performance reviews
  • Partner closely with Engineering and Production to support new product launches and process improvements
  • Monitor key quality metrics, including PPM, scrap rates, and on‑time delivery impact
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years leading quality in a gear or gearbox manufacturing environment, with direct experience in gear inspection methods and equipment
  • Direct experience in precision gear and gearbox manufacturing
  • Experience in high‑precision, tight‑tolerance production environments
  • Customer‑facing quality leadership experience
