Sabre Industries, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Manager to lead the Site Quality Control Department with a focus on operational excellence and a strong partnership with production.

You will guide staff, implement quality standards, and maintain documentation while improving COPQ and driving root‑cause analyses. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and several years in quality management in steel fabrication, plus certification familiarity in NDT methods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, plus minimum 4 years of quality management in steel fabrication.
  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification and ASNT SNT‑TC‑1A Level II familiarity with UT/MT testing methods, ISO/AISC audit experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain QC systems and measure performance against standards.
  • Plan and direct quality standards for processes, materials, and products.
  • Analyze test procedures and document results; coordinate with directors on problem resolution.
  • Lead QC inspectors plant-wide and ensure tests meet standards.
  • Maintain quality documentation, NCR database, and root‑cause analyses.
  • Coordinate audits, accreditation upkeep (AISC), and internal/customer audits.
  • Hire, train, and develop QC staff; create training materials.

Scope Of Responsibility

The Quality Control Manager for the facility will be responsible for guiding the Site Quality Control Department toward growth into operational excellence by cultivating Quality Control staff, adding to existing staff as needed, establishing and maintaining a partnership with production while setting expectations of acceptable quality, and monitoring and reporting on ongoing COPQ throughout the year. In short, the Site Quality Control Manager will lead by example based on experience.

Essential Duties
  • Develop and maintain systems to establish standards related to Quality Control activities and products, and measure performance against established standards.
  • Plan and direct activities related to development, application and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products.
  • Analyze and write test procedures; maintain documentation of results; and consult with Department Directors and other personnel on problem resolution.
  • Direct employees engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulate data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
  • Plan and organize daily activities of QC Inspectors plant-wide on all shifts, ensuring tests are performed in accordance with the company’s and customer’s standards and specifications.
  • Effectively communicate and resolve issues arising from production processes related to quality, across all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain all project‑related inspection documentation and monitor adherence to standards, actively checking for accuracy of data before passing it on.
  • Ensure the Sabre Industries Quality Manual for Utility & Wireless products is properly written and maintained.
  • Maintain the NCR database, lead the effort in providing timely, accurate, and effective root‑cause analysis, corrective, and preventive measures, and audit and report effectiveness of preventive measures to management.
  • Work closely with production, scheduling, project management, and quality management to generate SRM reports for customer and management review.
  • Maintain AISC accreditation, prepare, plan, and host annual AISC audits.
  • Plan, perform, and host internal and customer‑driven facility audits as required.
  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively.
  • Compile and write training material and conduct training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Ensure that the company and employees maintain appropriate certifications.
  • Promote and act upon employees’ ideas for improvements in areas of quality, safety, and work environment.
  • Coordinate special quality projects and studies.
  • Other duties as directed by management.

Position Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred and a minimum of 4 years of successful quality management in steel fabrication.
  • Experience: Current or previous certification as an AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI). Current or previous ASNT SNT‑TC‑1A for Level II certification in ultrasonic and magnetic particle inspection methods, and familiarity with non‑destructive testing methods. ISO or AISC audit or certification experience. Prior experience in the tower and pole industry highly preferred.

  • Strong utility/wireless steel industry experience.
  • Knowledge of the American Welding Society AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel.

  • Ability to work with and lead others effectively as well as working independently on specific projects.
  • Strong general office tools skills, i.e., MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and EPICOR preferred.
  • Sensitivity to the nuances of cultural differences and the ability to help others with those differences.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate resources to ensure projects are completed efficiently.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize competing priorities.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and/or work for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to manipulate tools or equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
