Job description

Our client is a well-established, privately owned contract manufacturer specializing in precision sheet metal fabrication for OEM customers across a variety of industries. Known for its high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing environment, the company has built its reputation on quality, responsiveness, and strong customer relationships. As the business continues to grow, they are seeking a hands‑on Quality Manager who will help strengthen their quality systems while supporting production and driving continuous improvement.

This is not a desk‑bound quality management role. We're looking for someone who would rather be on the production floor than sitting behind a computer. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced fabrication environment, enjoys working side‑by‑side with operators, welders, machinists, and supervisors, and has the technical ability to pick up a part, verify it meets specifications, identify problems, and implement practical solutions.

Success in this role requires someone who can balance strong quality standards with the realities of a growing manufacturing operation. You’ll build practical, scalable processes that keep production moving, maintain an audit‑ready quality system, and foster a culture where quality is everyone's responsibility.

Position Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the company's entire quality function, ensuring products consistently meet customer requirements while supporting efficient production operations. This role oversees the Quality Management System (QMS), product inspection, calibration, audits, supplier quality, and corrective action initiatives, while driving continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Success in this role requires a hands‑on leader who is comfortable spending significant time on the production floor, partnering with operators, welders, machinists, engineers, and supervisors to solve problems, improve processes, and build a culture where quality is everyone's responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead all quality operations and serve as the primary authority on quality standards, procedures, and objectives.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the company’s ISO‑compliant Quality Management System.
  • Develop and implement quality KPIs, including scrap rate, rework rate, PPM, on‑time delivery quality, and supplier quality metrics.
  • Champion a culture of quality across all departments.
Internal Quality Processes
  • Oversee inspection processes including first‑article inspections, in‑process inspections, and final inspections.
  • Ensure proper use of inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, laser scanners, and functional fixtures.
  • Maintain calibration programs for all measurement equipment.
  • Implement robust root cause analysis and corrective action systems (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality issues, CARs, and feedback.
  • Respond quickly to customer requests such as PPAP, FAIRs, capability studies, and dimensional reports.
  • Manage supplier quality— including qualification, scorecards, audits, and non‑conformance resolution.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Lead preparation and maintenance of quality documentation (control plans, FMEAs, process flow diagrams, inspection records).
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, prints, tolerances, and material certifications.
  • Maintain accurate non‑conformance reports, rework logs, and trend data.
Training & Development
  • Train operators, inspectors, and supervisors on quality standards, inspection methods, and blueprint reading.
  • Promote continuous improvement practices including lean manufacturing, 5S, and process standardization.
Qualifications
Required
  • 3+ years of experience in quality management or quality engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, or assembly.
  • Deep knowledge of GD&T, blueprints, and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Proficiency in ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience leading internal/external audits.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with PPAP, APQP quality documentation.
  • Quality certifications (CQE, CQM/OE, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt).
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Data‑Driven Decision Making
  • Customer‑Facing Professionalism
  • Process Discipline & Attention to Detail
  • Ability to Work in a Fast‑Paced, High‑Mix Environment
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and performance incentives
  • Benefits package including health, dental, vision, and PTO
  • Opportunity to lead continuous improvement initiatives and shape the future of quality at the company.
  • A fast‑growing, team‑focused environment with strong support from leadership
