Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Quality Inspector – Supply Chain Avionics to perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured parts at supplier sites, travel up to 20%, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. The role emphasizes reading engineering drawings, applying gauges, and ensuring conformance to ASME Y14.5 specifications.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in receiving, precision, or metrological inspection and experience with avionics components such as wire harnesses and PCB/PCBAs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of receiving, precision, or metrological inspection experience.
  • Experience leading a project and/or team.
  • Experience detecting design, documentation, and drawing flaws.
  • Experience as an avionics inspector for electro-mechanical components and assemblies such as wire harnesses and PCB/PCBAs.
  • Experience inspecting composite components and documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications using ASME Y14.5.
  • Lean manufacturing principles such as FIFO, 5S, material flow, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Travel up to 10-20% to perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured parts, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies at supplier sites and within incoming inspection areas.
  • Select and utilize standard gauges to ensure quality.
  • Inspect feature tolerances by selecting the tool with the required accuracy.
  • Perform complex inspections on purchased mechanical parts, components, assemblies and materials.
  • Resolve nonconformance and documentation issues, support Quality Management System policies and procedure documentation, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Support the development of inspection plans at suppliers.
  • Support supplier corrective action process, including verifying corrective action implementation.
  • Provide support to both internal and external stakeholders on SpaceX requirements and inspection processes.
  • Collaborate with teams, lead projects, and drive continuous improvement of processes both internally and at our suppliers.

QUALITY INSPECTOR – SUPPLY CHAIN AVIONICS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Travel up to 10-20% of the time to perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured parts, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies at supplier sites and within incoming inspection areas
  • Select and utilize standard gauges to ensure quality
  • Inspect feature tolerances by selecting the tool with the required accuracy

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of receiving, precision, or metrological inspection experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 1+ years of experience leading a project and/or team
  • Experience detecting design, documentation, and drawing flaws
  • Experience as an avionics inspector for electro-mechanical components and assemblies such as wire harnesses and PCB/PCBAs
  • Experience inspecting composite components and documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications using ASME Y14.5
  • Lean manufacturing principles such as FIFO, 5S, material flow, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. unassisted
  • Standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Open to working all required shift hours, including overtime, and weekends, as needed
  • Willing to travel – up to 10-20%
  • Frequent travel to suppliers around California required, valid driver’s license mandatory
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Quality Inspector/Level 1: $24.00 - $31.00/hour
Quality Inspector/Level 2: $28.00 - $37.00/hour
Quality Inspector/Level 3: $33.00 - $43.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
