United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Quality Inspector for the Starfall program at the Bloomfield, CT site. You will inspect sewing, cutting, and marking of soft goods, verify conformance to drawings, and document non-conformances as part of a safe, reliable space hardware supply chain.

The role requires in-process and final inspections, camera-based documentation, and collaboration with engineering for Root Cause and disposition actions.

Qualifications

  • Experience inspecting aerospace soft goods such as parachutes or canopies is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders and specifications.
  • Experience documenting non-conformances and using a work-order system.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and lean concepts.

QUALITY INSPECTOR (STARFALL)

the company is seeking exceptional employees to enable the success of its Starfall, Dragon, and Starship programs at the Bloomfield, Connecticut site. The Quality Inspector will inspect sewn, cut, and marked soft goods and verification successful execution of critical operations. The Inspector will aid in ensuring high-quality parachute system hardware exists the production line. This role will have a close feedback loop with engineering, production, and the greater the company team in our pursuit of making access to and from space as safe and reliable as possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform in-process inspections of sewing, stitching, cut parts, and marks using calibrated tools, work orders, and drawings to verify conformance
  • Perform secondary verification of critical work-order operations
  • Perform final inspection of completed soft goods as required; approve or reject hardware and document non-conformances
  • Perform inspection photography of hardware and non-conformances as required
  • Author issue tickets; label nonconforming hardware; track location; assign owners; and follow progress to close
  • Support the Material Review Board (MRB) process by documenting and managing non-conformances
  • Manage calibrated tools: maintain tracking and due dates, remove out-of-tolerance (OOT) equipment from use, disposition OOT with engineering, and ship tools for calibration on time
  • Communicate quality issues with production and engineering and assist with disposition and corrective action
  • Support quality management system (QMS) policies and lean / continuous-improvement activities
  • Inspect parts in accordance with the current drawing revision
  • Help to keep the facility organized; follow FOD, PPE, and material-handling procedures
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of inspection experience in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience with aerospace soft goods (parachutes, canopies, webbing, industrial sewing, or similar textiles)
  • Experience inspecting industrial sewing, stitching, cut parts, or other textiles / soft goods
  • Experience using inspection tools (scales, micrometers, calipers, cameras)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and specifications
  • Experience using work-order system and documenting non-conformances
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles, methods, and processes
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
  • Proficiency in other languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to work long hours (10+) and weekends/holidays as necessary
  • Must be willing to work all shifts and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods - 8 hours minimum
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Must be able to travel to remote sites if required
  • Ability to pass Space Force and Air Force background checks to support travel to Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
