Job summary

Blue Canyon Technologies in Boulder, CO is seeking a Quality Inspector I to ensure spaceflight hardware meets internal and customer requirements. You may inspect procured parts, PCB assemblies, and spaceflight subsystems, with responsibility for documentation and non-conformance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect mechanical hardware using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, thread gauges, and CMMs
  • Inspect PWB, verify electrical, electronic and EEE components and cable assemblies
  • Inspect spaceflight components such as buses, solar arrays, sun sensors, and reaction wheels
  • Review supplier documentation including material traceability, test reports, certificates of conformity, and packing lists
  • Document inspection activities using electronic systems, logs and labels
  • Witness and verify testing and setup operations
  • Detect non-conforming conditions and document clearly
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers and Manufacturing to address non-conformances
  • Foster collaborative learning and maintain good working relationships
  • Follow safety and escalation procedures and suggest improvements
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Purpose

As a Quality Inspector, you will be building and using your skills and abilities to ensure that our products meet internal and customer requirements. You may verify procured parts from suppliers, products and assemblies from space component manufacturing operations, and even fully completed spacecraft. You will help the company improve by providing feedback on processes, procedures, and observations to facilitate continuous improvement. And ultimately, your contributions will help ensure that our customers receive reliable spaceflight hardware that meet or exceed their expectations. Inspectors are generally assigned to either mechanical or electrical roles with the corresponding responsibilities below.

Pay Range: $22.00 - 30.00/hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

On-site position at our Boulder, CO location (work locations are subject to change based on business need).

Job Responsibilities
  • Inspection of mechanical hardware using calipers, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, and CMMs.
  • Inspection of printed wiring boards (PWB), verification of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) components, cable assemblies, and inspection of printed wiring assemblies (PWA).
  • Inspection of spaceflight components such as buses, solar arrays, sun sensors, reaction wheels and other subassembly components.
  • Reviewing and verifying incoming documentation from suppliers including material traceability, test reports, certificates of conformity, and packing lists.
  • Documentation of inspection activities using electronic information systems, written logs, and labels.
  • Witness and verify various testing and setup operations.
  • Detection of non-conforming conditions and documenting in clear and precise language.
  • Collaborate with program Quality Engineers and Manufacturing personnel in support of process and product non-conformances in a constructive and well-articulated manner.
  • Foster a collaborative and interactive team environment that supports both a learning and teaching culture. Maintain an effective work relationship with others in the company.
  • Follow established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and in corporate directives for the safe performance of daily activities. Proactively suggest improvements and elevate issues to management.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications/Education
  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 0-3 years of experience
  • Inspection or Quality Engineering experience in aerospace/defense, electronics contract manufacturing, and/or high precision machining.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T ASME Y14.5 - Formal training is preferred)
  • Experience with inspection of electronic workmanship of PWA and cables (IPC-610, IPC-620.)
  • Preference is given to current 3rd party certification. Being able to be certified to these standards will be required to perform the job duties.
  • Experienced with and understanding of mechanical drawings and interpreting technical schematics.
  • Experience performing Receiving Inspection and reviewing material certifications.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP and engineering data management software.
  • Basic understanding of material flow in a manufacturing environment and importance of measuring tool calibration.
  • Familiarity with ISO9000 requirements as it pertains to manufacturing and quality operations. AS9100 experience preferred.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education

Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted.
