Job summary

McDonald Plastic Molding, Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking a shift inspector to perform inspection tasks with judgment to ensure products meet quality, fitness, and customer requirements.

You will use prints, measuring instruments, and gages to verify dimensions, complete quality control documentation, and communicate issues to supervisors. This role emphasizes adherence to the company's safety culture and quality system while supporting production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Make documented checks, 2/3 times per shift or as needed, of each operating machine and secondary operation to establish an acceptable product.
  • Use instruments or gages necessary to measure required dimensions and make decisions and judgment based on the information available in regards to the acceptability of the product being produced.
  • Complete, accurately, and neatly, all process reports, audit reports, daily summaries, and all other pertinent quality control documentation by shift daily.
  • Attend the daily shift meeting 15 minutes prior to the shift to review the preceding shifts quality and production problems that may have occurred, and to review any upcoming quality and production requirements.
  • Pull out all information available on each job to determine product quality, including: Files, prints, and quality requirements; Last shots and limit samples; Color samples; Gages and/or fixtures
  • Make operators aware of the quality requirements through instructions and samples if necessary.
  • Maintain good communications and discuss all parts being produced on each machine with the Shift Supervisor throughout the shift.
  • Verify with 1st piece inspection all new and revised set-ups on any machine or secondary operation.
  • Verify Last Shots from the production run to ensure acceptable product is shipped to the customers.
  • Advise Shift Supervisors and Direct Supervisor of all quality problems.
  • Properly tag and put all parts on hold that do not meet the quality requirements after having reported this to the shift supervisor.
  • Be fluent in our Kinetic System to maintain correct inventory transactions.
  • To adhere to all company policies regarding conduct, safety practices, and job performance.
  • Assist in secondary work as needed and as time permits.
  • All other duties as assigned by Direct Supervisor, Shift Supervisor or Plant Manager.

SUMMARY

Perform inspection tasks with a high degree of judgment, completed products must meet quality, fitness, and customer requirements. To use prints, measuring instruments, and gages to produce acceptable products before large quantities of scrap and/or rework are produced or shipped.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep immediate work area clean and neat including:
    • Hold Area.
    • File all quality requirements and write up where they belong when a job is completed.
    • Keep the last shot properly marked and filed away.
    • Keep all limit samples with last shots.
    • Put away all fixtures and gages in their location.
  • The shift inspector(s) may also perform other quality-related duties as assigned by the Quality Engineer, Quality Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or President.
  • Assist with Gage Calibration and Gage R&R Studies.
  • Assist with Capability Studies.
  • Stage break periods so start up production is not delayed. This may require an early or late break.
  • Be fluent in our Kinetic System to maintain correct inventory transactions.
  • To adhere to all company policies regarding conduct, safety practices, and job performance.
  • When required, to perform any job in a lower rated classification that is necessary to support plant operations safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in secondary work as needed and as time permits.
  • All other duties as assigned by Direct Supervisor, Shift Supervisor or Plant Manager.
